2005 Chopper Wire Plus Install

Last night I pretty much wrapped up the WP install on a 2005 Chopper for a friend. I just wanted to plug Jake for putting out an excellent product, and very solid directions. While it's tedious and a little overwhelming at first, a 10 year old could do this! Jake provided a very nice, step by step how-to with pictures. I'm done with the install, just need to get another fuse holder today. The only thing I would add is get a damn magnifying glass so you can read the pins on the plug, and having the stock wiring diagram handy helps a lot! I had a few wires left over at the end but was able to trace them to redundant functions.

Thanks again Jake.

I too had a couple of wires left over , but in my case one was a hot wire that I left out. I got a little confused :bang: and decided to send the whole harness and Wire Plus Kit to Jake, he went over it found a couple of problems I had and wa la :2thumbs: everything works great. Jake is the Man

It's not hard to do, just pay attention to what you're doing. There are a million connections to make, so if you go to start the thing and it doesn't work, it will be a nightmare to troubleshoot.

Don't tell them that Moe....

Damn, you'll have everyone scared to death here! :D

Yea, it will be "a little bit" harder to troubleshoot for the novas. But if you can read a schematic, and the wiring diagram, it's not an issue.
It's just a relay switching unit replacing a microprocessor controlled switching unit. :yesnod: That' it!
:nono: Don't let yourselves get "overwhelmed" by it! This type of technology has been around a long time, nothing new about it. Good stuff!

Good Luck :2thumbs:

I had tach problems, sometimes tach would work, but tach lights would flash intermittently- had speedo gremlins too, after I put in the WP haven't had a tach or speedo problem since. And BD is throwing all these speedo and tach boards in when it might just be the EHC. Who the hell knows but all my gremlins are gone for the past 2000 miles since my WP. I was close to getting rid of the dog, now I absolutely love her. :2thumbs:

Any one in Michigan do this mod? Just curious, I'd like to do this, but I'd perhaps like to see it first hand.....weird I guess, but wiring is totally my week side.

Started the bike up, and it runs great. I've got an issue with the tach but I believe it's a bad board because he had some issues before.

I did it as I had time over a few weeks, but I'm sure it could be done in a weekend if you had enough beer. Jake gave a parts list in the instructions but I never read them so I had to stop a few times to get 12ga wire, 2x 30a fuse holders, and a female blade connector. Don't forget that magnifying glass too, it will really help. Now strap a set on and go do it. Fortune favors the bold.

Guys... It is easy. One wire at a time, follow it close and you can take your time and have it done in a sat or sun afternoon.

Everyone that bought one, that thought they couldn't or shouldn't be doing the install, all told me after they were done that it was easy, just time consuming.

You have to expect it to be time consuming because there are about 80 wires to connect. But it is easy!!!

Agreed!!! If I can do it anyone can!:2thumbs:

The only problem I had was that if you get a harness off of Ebay make sure you get one for your bike not for a different model - some of the wiring is a little different.

Good job on your install Moe. You will be happy you did it.

Just keep in mind, Wire-Plus is having a very hard time filling orders for these and they are always on backorder.

lately sales have picked up and the most I can get at a time from WP is 3-5 units. They never have them built.

Right now they are having a hard time with a supplier of one of the switching components and can't even built them. At this point I only have two units available and after those are gone, hard telling how long till more will be off backorder.

From here out, with the backorder issue, I'll be posting on my website if the units are out of stock until they are readily available.
