20 for a new K9

This is your brain on drugs - any questions?

... he didn't say almost 20. And no its not true. 21,995 is almost 20, like your burned up EHC is almost road worthy. Closest I found was a new 07 for 21.

Looks like Bigfoot got away again.

Got it, thanks guys. They have a couple of K9s for $20,999. He was looking at used for $17k, but if he can go finance a new one for $20-21k, it makes more sense.

I think Tampa had a left over 07 chopper for 19,000. It was listed as a internet special. Also had some good prices on the others as well.

Look at Tampa Big Dogs website at tampabdm.com. They have a couple on their website for around 20k.
They do NOT have any 2009 K-9's for even close to 21k. Your statement of they have a couple on their website is somewhat mis-leading.

The 2009 K9 for 26988 is basically the same price you will find it at any BigDog dealer. It's a bottom of the line paint and no options K9.

If you want to buy a 2007 that has never been sold and you are calling it new, well, the instant you roll it out the door, it's a 2 year old model regardless of the warranty.

I really don't think you are going to see desparation from any Big Dog dealership. I hope and believe in the brand.

The 2007 and 2008 models are getting big discounts. If you subscribe to the Big Dog newsletter, you will get at least 1 flyer a month with them saying "save up to $xxxx on selected BigDog models". In the fine print, you will see that is last years (or older) model. So subtract that figure from the list price and you basically get the prices you see in the Tampa Big Dog website.

Long Live Big Dog!

Well Moe, I bought mine for $8800 plus about $570 shipping but this is what it looks like!!

Shovelcowboy

I recently bought a project K-9 bike off ebay from Shovelheadkicker. It was one he put together from BDM parts. I think I bought it right but should be shot for taking on another project (but I enjoy a challenge just like with my red chopper I built that you saw).

I sent the following to Raywood last fall, but I don't think to others. My plan is to finish it this winter. Since I bought it I think I have collected all the missing parts.

Anyway, this one will be way more of a Big Dog than my red chpper which had a new take-out BDM 107 with primary and clutch. Here is a little of what this K-9 has and a some pics (I got it for $8800 plus it cost me $570 to ship it to UT).

My idea is to complete it myself and go with the best and least costly wiring and parts but use as much BDM parts as I can. Will probably get them off ebay and hopefully some from forum members (swap meet). I will also be asking a lot of questions on the forum (since so much of the newer BDM bikes and parts are not after market harley). (Thus my questions on cranksensor, IST, ect).

Anyway I wanted to tell you what I was doing first and I hope the other members don't think badly of me for not going out and plunking down $30,000 plus for a new K-9 and for not supporting the BDM factory (I probably WILL be supporting them before I'm done buying parts). After all, I already had 3 bikes and really didn't need this one, but like I said I like to build things and accept a challenge and I think I can have a top-of-the-line type bike when I'm finished.

I have been very impressed with the helpfulness and vast knowledge base of the members of this forum (and especially You).

I would be intererested in what you think (Even an "I think you're NUTS" is OK).

Thanks,
Ken

I didn't say you said 2009's. The way I said what I said was mis-leading as well.:job:

(All in fun)
Richard

damn, the message was apparently edited just as I quoted it. Anyway, it's a non point. I just don't want the bottom to fasll out of the Big Dog sales.

2007 is fine, it's more about getting the financing. I don't think he should buy new, resale is terrible.

Hey Shovel like I told you before I think your project is cool but why try to copy a K-9? Build something that looks like a K9 but take out all the BD proprietary stuff, especially the electrical! It will save you money and aggravation in the long run! I would build my brother a bike if I had the time, but right now my hands are full with the 3 customs I maintain. I'd rather he just gets a 2006 or 2007 K9 because he just wants the 300 rear, he needs a softail, and the bike will be relatively trouble free.

I hear ya, Moe! I've already decided to go with harley type wiring (since my red custom chopper seems so trouble-free) and I really like your custom bars (did you build those or can I buy a set). I don't think I'll change out the front end to springer like you did (although I really like the looks of yours). I understand about how much time it takes to build one and when you can buy them cheap like in todays market, why spend all that time to save a few bucks.

I'm sure I'll be "picking your brain" before I finish this one:up:

If someone can buy a new "2007 or 2008" K-9, and still get the warranty, I'd do it if the price is right. Nothing really changed and getting a killer deal is always good. :2thumbs:

Redneck sells those bars, but I had them sent in pieces so I could weld them at the exact rise and pullback that I wanted. You know the deal Shovel. It's not just about owning a cool chopper, there is a special satisfaction you get when you know that you put your hand on every bolt on that bike to make it what it is.

Moe, I appreciate the info on the bars. And I appreciate your input on my next build, THANKS.:2thumbs:

I have watched your posts on what you did with your bike and I really like what you have done. I wish I could have made it to Hoat's 40th so we could have met and compared builds (Hell you coulda' rode my Red Chop and let me know what you thought)!

I really enjoyed meeting Hoat in Sturgis last year! Maybe we could all go there sometime!

Anyway, I DO know what you mean about "putting your hand on every bolt"! Maybe you could give me some thoughts on what to do with my K-9 project (besides bars and electrical).

Ride often, Ride safe Brother:up:
