warranty question

I recently purchased a 07 K9 Limited Editon that was able to be sold as new (it was never titled). It has just over a thousand miles on it (ridden by dealership owner) and was forfieted by a dealership that closed. However, the dealership sold the warranty rights to the bikes they had (so i was told). Does anyone believe it is worth it to purchase a warranty on these bikes? I am meticulous about preventative maintenance and don't want to spend more than I need to especially on a warranty. So basically I have a new bike with break in miles on it but no warranty. I can still buy one if I want to, but I am wondering who out there has used their warranty for major repairs????

ru getting the warranty thru BD?? or are you going to go thru a afrtemarket company??? BD warranty rocks!!!!! while you have to shop around with the aftermarket companies and make sure they cover what you want them to cover!!!

Where did you get it? Carls?

Go to the BDM website and email Customer Service and ask them if they will warranty your bike after telling them what you explained here. They may give you a bit of warranty or amount of time. Oh and never heard of selling the warranty to another motorcycle. The warranty comes from BDM not the dealer.

i haven't purchased a warranty yet, and it would be from third party company. I got some clarification on the circumstances and it wasn't that the defunked dealership sold the warranty rights, they were dropped by BDM when the bikes were sold to a second dealership Super Street Customs in Ringgold Georgia. That is where i bought the bike from. It is in new condition just has the 1000 miles on it. But if i want a warranty i will have to purchase it. So again what i am asking has anyone used their warranty for major repairs?

I'll ask you again. Have you contacted BDM. Their warranties are transferable. Many cases on here of BDM giving warranties in these circumstances.

Not many here have anything good to say about aftermarket warranties. They seem to be too restrictive.

think about it, the odometer has 1k miles on it, one of the recalls was the speedometer. how many miles does the bike have on it? get a computer printout from the dealer of the rpm action, then decide if you need the warranty. and, yes, there have been some big dollar repairs made under warranty.

Thanks you guys, I will check with BDM and see what they offer, from my understanding, (but the info is coming from a salesman) BDM isn't warrantying these bikes that have been reclaimed from failed dealerships. I guess a straight answer from the manufacturer would be a good start, and yeah i didn't know about a computer history of the rpm. I just spent a lot on this bike and it is basically new, i just don't want to get screwed down the road. I'll let yall know what BDM says.

Let me give you my :zz2cents:. 1BadK9.

If you have gotten a great deal on your ride having a warranty or not should not be a deal breaker. There's been only one safety recall on your ride and it's the rear fender bolt upgrade. Unless you ride two up alot you really don't need to do a thing with that but get the new four bolts. The speedo software flash will cure an erratic speedo. The best fix for the speedo fogging is removing the rubber plug inside the speedo housing. Side cover tabs have a tendency to break unless you have the push pin upgrade. Some or all of these things may have already been done on yours, don't know because you didn't say so.

I bought mine 8/07 and my warranty runs out at the end of August. I just took mine in under warranty to fix a starter-to-primary O-ring to correct a very small oil leak, a dollar part:job:

Thats it with that baby and all very minor issues. I don't have tons of miles, about 5500 and I feel all the little bugs have been worked out now.

I don't think you will have any regrets it's a solid ride IMHO.

Good get BDM involved cause they are the ones that own the warranties.

Also as Wood stated here:

Understand there was some stories out there of lots of bikes that were flooded out from the big hurricane so again give your VIN to BDM and they can tell you where your bike was sent, sold, or whatever happened to it and again take care of your warranty. It should be covered and I'll be they take care of you.

Thanks Ron, Yeah i thought it was a good deal, i paid 27,900 for it and that included taxes, tag, title, and over 2K in accessories (big raduius pipes, diamond cut air cleaner, forward controls extensions, passemgers junk etc.). I will ask about the speedo and fender bolts and as previously mentioned see if i can get the rpm computer print out.

And yeah Ray i wrote to BDM waiting for a response. I just don't want to lay down another 1500 bucks for a warranty, if these bikes are pretty sound. I know i won't be putting a ton of miles on it.

Thank you all for your input. I'll post what BDM says.

I have an extended warranty on my bike but I'm thinking it was a waste of $1500. I've only had a broken clutch cable in 2 years and that was taken care of under the factory warranty. Some people have EHC issues, but I haven't been one of those people.

It's a gamble with extended warranties, but you could spend roughly $500 to replace the EHC with a set-up from bdmridgeback, who is a member and supporting business here. He has a kit to replace your EHC with his Wire Plus WP-374 EHC module/WP-148 Ignition Switch packge. I ordered one just in case my EHC ever does go bad.

Ok it took a while but i finally got a response from BD customer service on the dropped warranty, and belive it or not the salesman was being honest. To cut their losses on defunked dealerships BD will often resell the recovered bikes to another dealership at a discounted price minus the warranty. Especially in a case like demo ridden bikes or unsold older models. Mine was taken to the factory in March and had the recall for the fender/strut bolts and a couple of service bulletins, and a front exhaust gasket corrected, then complety checked out, diagnose checked and then the computer cleared. They sold it to the dealership where i bought it with a 90 day unlimited warranty which expired at the end of June. The dealership is going to let me take it home and ride it for a few weeks before i decide on purchasing a third party extended warranty. And that is the rest of the story.......
Again thanks to those with advice and input i appreciated the input and the ideas for investigating this concern. When i get this sweet thang all put together i will post some pictures.

The extended warranty probably will not be worth it. Crap that breaks is usually little things that vibrate loose or snap off. The big ticket items like the motor and trans are pretty solid. Also in my experience, S&S and Baker will often step up and send you the parts you need if you call them directly when something breaks. Take the $1500 and invest some of it in some nice tools, and take the time to learn how to maintain the bike yourself. In the end you will never need a warranty again. Parts are cheap, it's the labor and downtime that are the killer.
