Passenger Comfort (K-9 versus SG)

I was leaning toward keeping the Street Glide I have (for 2-up riding) and buying a 2003-2007 Chopper / K-9 for my toy (2 Insurance's etc).

While @ the Cherrokee Ralley, the Big Dog dealer had a K-9 set up with the 18" sissybar & the wide passenger seat. He advised several people / passengers thought the K-9 set up this way was actually as comfortable as the Harley Touring bike (better lean angle on the back rest etc).

It would be very nice (cost) to just have 1 bike, but I'm learry of getting rid of the Street Glide because of passenger comfort.

Note our normal rides are about 200 miles.

Oppinions please & Thanks.

My wife can ride 200 on the K9. But not much more with out extended breaks, she could definitely do 300+ on a street glide. I would keep it if you can. In fact that will be our next HD. :2thumbs:

My wife has done several 700 or more miles per day without issues. The HD maybe more comfortable though with that wrap around seat and arm rests on the tour pac. You can make anything as comfortable as you wish.

:D

I,m with you Baby Ray, 700 miles would put me in traction.

It sounds like I should try to keep the Street Glide. That just means holding off on the Big Dog purchase until January - Feburary (SG should be paid off).

It's getting harder and harder to hold off (I really like the 2008 K-9 my cousin just bought).

Thanks for the input.

The street glide may be the best bike for your needs at this time.

BTW, Ray & I did 700 miles one day to have lunch with Showdog, a forum family member who does not even have a Big Dog.

Less than 300 miles a day seems like a wasted ride.

My wife said the K9 was not very comforable when I first got it. Of course she had not been anywhere, just listening to everybody else say that it doesn't look comforable. She has made a few trips with me now and has worked up to 400 miles in a day. We just stop more often, about every 70 miles and let here stretch here legs. But she says it not bad at all.

I'll re-state my post above. Glenda and I have had to do 700 milers and more out of neccessity.
We go to the Redwood or Sturgis and without family here we have a good friend take care of our 7yr old. So Redwood ends on Sunday, Travis has to go to school on Monday and our friends that are watching him have to work so we have no choice but to "iron" butt it home.

I have a Husky but ride easy 200 miles on it no problem at all, if you have the right seat and some support for your back.:2thumbs:

:2thumbs: That's what I am thinking. What about letting her ride the Streetglide and you do the K9 or the opposite? I know packing someone for 200 miles takes a toll on you well anyway in stop and go traffic.

Keep the SG... buy your k-9. ...Wife and I have riden several 100 mile poker runs. K-9 not set up well for taller passenger. Passenger pegs force legs back and result in legs cramps after 40 miles. Solveable problem but big dog has no solution. Still looking for acceptable solution.
