Headlight replacement

Energy One
Sorry, but dumb question. My headlight may have burned out and needs to be replaced. How do I get the old one out? I have a ring around the light that has to come out, but I don't want to booger it up forcing it out. I hope it is just the light bulb. I had to ride home 25 miles after midnight at the ROT rally in Austin last weekend. (That's another thread! What a rally) :job:

Look under the "how to" under the technical forum...Gas Man has a how to replace headlight and bulb. I replaced my bulb about a month and a half ago...I used the PIAA GTX-Super Plasma bulb ...the same Gas and alot of other people used...he has the links in his thread....step by step with pics....that should help ya:up:

there is a set screw under the front of the headlight. remove that the turn out the inner threaded ring. then turn out the next threaded ring using a small tool in one of the three holes of the ring. then slip out the lamp.
Actually, there are two set screws - one for the outer chrome trim ring, and one for the inner ring that holds the headlamp in place. If you have trouble rotating the chrome trim ring, try wearing latex gloves to get better grip. Also, you can get a nifty tool that fits the three holes in the inner ring from Vicky, fer cheap.

Hey Ischill....how did you make out with that bulb...did u get it out easy? did you replace it?...we haven't heard back from ya:confused:

Dave, thank a lot. I think that I need to check on the service bulletin. I did not receive one. My plug is melted and that is the problem. I am scheduled to take the Dog for service Wed. for the 2,500 mile check and I will have them check/fix it and install my new Plasma bulb and lens like you guys suggested. I just received them and I'm excited to have them installed. (copy-cat) I think I'll let the service guy do it when he fixes the plug. On the Plasma bulb, I got two in the package so I expect to put the other one in my Harley light. Thanks loads for the GOOD advice. I love this place!!!

Shit! wow! those pics came out big...lol....sorry about that.....you will have to scroll to the right to see the other 2..

Dave, thanks again. I got the bulb and lens installed by the tech at the dealership with my 2,500 mile service (and syn oil and lube). The tech was relunctant to install b/c of the high wattage, but I told him Chopper Dave said it was ok and we got it in. After he put it in, he was a believer. I walked into the service area and there was a crowd of service guys around the bike checking out the beam. Everybody liked it. Like Chris, I also got the Adjure lens. (nice $150.00 upgrade for the headlight!) Also they said I only had 6 "hits" on my computer print out for high revs. Told me that was nothing compared to others they have had. They can give you a print out of all your revs and how many times you hit them. I guess they are serious about watching you for warranty stuff. I think my highest was 6,200, don't know what gear. All I know is that I have had to clean the pants out a couple of times. The dealership treated me very well and I even tipped the tech. I hope this is the same for all of our dealerships. The next thing will be to put Thunder Monster baffles in. I have them in the Harley and like them very much and I see there are several of you that have them in the V&H BR. Do you have to drill any holes for install or are they bolt in?? Thanks again guys.

 Thanks Ischill....that der is some funny ass shit"Chopper Dave said it was ok" actually...the PIAA bulbs are the same wattage as the stock ones....if you got the same ones as Gas and I...you have nothing to worry about because they are the same wattage. As far as the Thunder Monster baffels....just look under Gas Man's how to install Big City Thunder Baffels...just like the headlight, he has step by step instuctions with pic's. I took my baffels out of mine and cut them down about 5 inches or so and I have the deeper sound that I liked and your not suppose to lose any hp or torque from what another guy did...and he dynoed it to prove it. I aslo have a little video of my bike idling for a minute or so....blipping the throttle a few times.....I just have to see how to get the video downloaded here....doesn't sound bad being it was a digital camera mic....the next time I get the bike on video...I will use my buddies hand held digital recorder...:2thumbs:

Hey there Lee.....I down loaded a couple short vid's of my bike idling...they were taken from a digital camera...doesn't sound too bad...but it sounds better in person.....like I said.....next time I will use a digital hand held recorder...but this kinda gives you an idea what my bike sounds like with the cut down baffels. look in the gallery.....and I think they are in member video's. remember...this is only off of that little ass mic on the digital camera....

Damn, Dave, you got some nice toys in that clean garage......I took my cell phone and recorded me starting the engine on the dog and idling and use that for my ringer. Talk about getting some attention when the phone goes off. Pretty cool. I'll get some pix soon. Thanks again, and......as you know, "he who dies with the most toys wins"

Thanks Lee...actually this garage is smaller than our old one....not too cluttered...but can't wait to get a bigger one. My sled is a 2001 Arctic Cat ZR-800 and I also have a 2004 Arctic Cat DVX-400 4-wheeler....I have some shit in a storage...like a 69 Nova also...
not too bad sounding from a camera.....I will get some better ones when I use my friends digital hand held recorder....:whoop:
