Extended Warranty

Energy One
Howdy Friends! Would like to know details on an extended warranty for my 07 K-9. Original warranty runs out in September 09. Thanks for any info you have! SL

First, if you do any modifications to the bike most extended warranties are voided.

Second, should you choose to buy an extended warranty make sure it covers all electrical problems. Seems to be a week area in many Bigdogs.

Third, look for one that spells out what it will not cover. most just spell out what they will cover. I believe this type of prefered warranty is refered to as an exclusionary type policy. In other words they simply tell you what they will not cover.

I had the extended waranty on my HD Deuce. Sold the bike before the extended warranty kicked in. To transfer it to the new owner, i had to have all the oil change bills and manintenance schedule bills from an authorized HD dealership before they would honor it. It had a $50 deductible every time you would take it in. The policy was from a company in Arizona. Being from Canada they did give me a bit of a run around when i did transfer it, but eventually came through. If all your warranty work is done at a Bigdog dealer, i don't think you should have any problem. Good luck.

When I purchased my 2005 Chopper, the dealer threw in the extended warranty (Xtreme Guard). I hadn't used it (didn't have any issues) until recently. I noticed after one ride that a small (nickel size) oil spot developed under the engine, by the starter. Also I was having some electrical issues where the bike would suddenly cut out, like I had hit the engine cut off switch or something.

Brought the bike into the dealer and they did some electrical work, including replacing the tach board, plus a brand new starter (oil leaking past the shaft). Cost to me...zippo, the extended warranty covered it. I didn't have to do anything other than ride the bike!
