with meter set to AC voltage and leads in the 2 stator plug terminals you should have approx. 20 volts AC when bike at idle.

Stators aren't that hard to replace. The hardest part is loosening the compensator nut and pulling the magnet off without pinching your fingers. I had to replace one on all three motorcycles. I did the last one in an hour and a half.

YEAH, HAD TESTER ON A/C VOLTS, NO READING. BIKE IS STILL UNDER WARR. TAKING IT TO STROKERS IN DALLAS AND GONNA DRINK SOME COLD ONES WHILE THEY FIX IT FOR ME.

May sound stupid but also check your tester. Been there, (not bike related) knocked off a ladder on to concrete. Next thing I remember is Baby Ray checking to see if I was still breathing. I think he was hoping for my bike:bang:

Mongo, he won't have to worry about that. No compensator although the new BDM website states they started putting them back in on newer bikes now.

what do you mean by no compensator Ray? Surely he has to remove the primary chain assembly in order to get to the stator?

I'm not Ray but. The 05 and newer BD's have just a sprocket with out a compensator. The 09's have added it to all but the ridge back. You still have to remove the crank nut to get hte sprocket out of the way thou.

Anybody got a pic of a compensator sprocket?

Makes you wonder if they (BDM) went back to the compensator due to all the clutch problems? :eek:

You didn't fall hard enough. At least at a hospital there would be a chance of waking up to see a pretty nurse instead of Baby Ray leaning over you! :eek: :D

I wondered the same. I have been told that the compensator reduces some of the shock. But really don't know. Also wonder why they are not putting it on the 09 Ridgeback. Offset due to 330 tire? Using up parts? :confused:

I think Alhall told me that the comp nuts don't work 100% for many motors over 80CI

took my bike to strokers dalls sunday to get stator replaced while i waited. hadn't been there long and ser mgr came got me out of the bar and took me back to the shop. tech had the side cover off and showed me the clutch basket had slack on the tranny main shaft. took basket off and the splines on the basket were history. main shaft had major problems on splines too. oil from tranny had leaked past seal into primary case. pulled the stator cover off and the magnets were pretty much history. looked like metal shavings from the splines had eaten them up. pretty sad story. had to leave my bikr there so they could make necessary repairs. thank god its still under warranty. anyone else had a problem similar to this?

Never heard of the trans shaft splines going out on a stock bike. Anything like that getting into the stator will kill that easy. But the trans shaft... wow. The only thing known with those is for that input shaft to break in the tranny...
