Hi Guys,
Sorry for the newbee question. I would like to understand what adjusting the accelerator pump too far to the left will do. It is my understanding, you adjust the screw in until it touches lighty, then with the engine warm, hit the throttle and look for hesitation. Turn 1/4 turn out until engine runs smoothly with quick response.

So what is the result if I go too far, say 1/2 turn or 1 full turn. What issues can it cause. Fouled plugs? backfiring?......... It must cause something going too far in the other direction.

Thanks

Thanks Chopper Dave... I figured it would cause some kind of issue. You guys up here are a great wealth of knowlege....... Maybe I can get to the point where I can work on my own Dog for most maintenance issues.

hey Dave,
that instructions pdf, # 51-1012 is exactly what I was looking for. The link was'nt working in GASMANS post, but I went to the S&S site and was able to find it. Great stuff. I had thought the S&S Shop manual that I have for my bike would have had this in it, but it didn't. Thanks again,

That's a good instruction to have. Like you said in your first post to turn the pump off you screw in till it just touches the pump arm. Go to far and just as the instruction says you could damage the pump.
Then I think the instruction recommneds two full turns out but I run mine about 1 1/2.
S&S carbs used to not have an accelerator pump! This pump is what squirts gas in when you twist the throttle to start the bike and prevents the initial bog you would get if you open the throttle to pass a car.

Don't be afraid to play with it but know where it is set at all times by counting the number of turns you have on it. Same with the fuel/air screw.

Thanks Ray,
Hey, by the way, I lived in Kent Washington when I was a kid. Went to school in Auburn. Couldn't ask for a better place to ride a Big Dog....
