A lot of horror stories but mine, 05 Ridge, still running strong. Only a melted headlight connector so far. :2thumbs:
That seems to be how it is for any BDM...

Either you have one and its horrible POS

or

You have one and it gives you little to no problems

Running Rich

I've done a lot of work on my carb being at high altitude. My 04 Ridgeback seems to always need some adjustments on the carb. The best info on carb adjustment is the S&S Manual for the Super G. You can get it off the S&S website, no charge. It's a pretty easy carb to adjust, jet and set up if you follow the steps. Also, the enrichener on your carb can be leaking by, causing a perpetual rich mix. Might be something worth looking into.

You said the bike starts, runs, but then after a short warm up begins to sputter. It's natural for the mixture in these engines to become rich once they warm up. It sounds to me like some jetting, adjustment and checking the enrichener may help.

As for the electrical problems, the EHC is unlikely to be bad since you just had it replaced. I've had issues with the connections to the EHC and have cleaned them, secured the connector, fixed shorts due to wire insulation wearing through. My latest was the corrosion in the connector which I cleaned and applied some conductive grease, the bike has never ran better. By the way, I still have the original EHC installed and each time I thought it was done it turned out to be something else usually simple.

I have heard the same about the EHC being blamed for everything, due to the lack of strong technical troubleshooting skills of some of these techs nowadays. I've also heard the majority of returned EHC boxes have no problems.

Sell them and buy Harleys. :D I find it very hard to believe that you had 3 bad EHC's in a row. Somebody isn't finding the actual problem and just replacing parts. These things just aren't that complex.

All I know is that I asked to talked to the guy that knows the most about EHCs when I was at sturgis, I think his name was scott, and he said my EHC was prone to connections breaking inside of it at constant RPMs, that's when mine acted up- a 80mph 3k rpm, and I cruise at that speed- always. He said BD tried changing the potting material but it didn't pass testing- so one reason they went to the adapter style for the 04? Seemed to me like they weren't too sure what was going on either. My facts may be jacked but I never felt comfortable with waht I heard from anyone.

Hey, I love my dog, I just had a bad one I guess and I took control. No more EHC and now it behaves like I want. Thanks Jake.

I guess flchick got her bike running. She posted 2 Feb and hasn't been back. Maybe she forgot about us or gave up on the bike.

Everyone thinks their good at electrics, but sadly, that ain't always the case. EHC's can be OK for operating lights, tacs and miscellaneous features, but do yourself a favor and have someone re-wire the ignition completely separate from the EHC with both an ignition switch and slam button on the starter. My Mastiff spent more time in the shop than in my garage until I figured that out. Over 10 years later and I have not had another failure/problem.

Leave the F EHC alone.... nothing wrong with it if you fill it up with dealectric grease ..... mine has been On-Off Road, snow, bucketing rain... and.... it does not blink....

Maintenance is much art as its science......
