If you search the site you will see that members either hate them or love them. Performance guys hate them and the "purdy" boys love them.

Just make sure you get the backing plate for them.

Sorry thanks!
No sweat but most of the new guys go and buy these cone filters without knowing about a backing plate and then bitch that bike doesn't run right.

Yell if you need anymore info.

Spike Intake Assy

I put a D&M Custom version on my 04 Ridgeback and it looks bad ass. See Pics on my biker photos. It also helped the engine breathe better. I know this because when I was done putting it on, the RPM increased which meant the engine was running leaner because it was getting more air. So I guess it's not all show and no go. The one I have came with a K&N filter.

I looked at the auction on Ebay and that's a great price but I'm not sure who makes it. You will need a bracket to mount it on the carb. Otherwise you will put stress on the carb and manifold and you will have intake leaks. D&M makes the bracket for the S&S carbs. Take note of the shims provided with the bracket and shim the assembly so the head breather ports/bolts carry the weight of the intake and not the carb and manifold while still making sure the intake assembly seals to the carb. You will be removing the stock intake filter housing you will have to rearrange the crankcase breather hose. I brought mine from the crankcase to the intake bracket. The Big Dog dealer said it was unconventional but it's not a bad idea since it will pull a slight vacuum on the crankase. This arrangment also keeps the oil mist from getting all over everything. One last tip, put a small amount of red RTV on the shims and bolt heads to seal the mounting hardware. I didn't do this at first and had oil droplets running off othe bracket from the heads. Simple, but it's been working. Oh and don't over tighten the breather bolts, They are hollow and snap easily. Let me know if you need any other info or some close up pics.

The one on e-bay is not a Wimmer or a D&M I'd say just a off brand cheepy you usually get what you paid for.If you don't pay much you usually aren't getting much.

For that price i would snag it up in a heart beat. I love the cone filter look. And thats a great price. Iv seen 4 to 6 hundred dollar ones that the chrome flaked off of in a year.

I wish I had more money.
If it is one that you like on the ebay ask the seller if it has the backing plate of not. Ask what brend it is. They have that feature for a reason. Kind of like the search feature here right ?

Another round please
They are shitty for performance. I had my bike dyno'd and it took off 5 HP. Took it off and got the 5 HP back. I cut the cone off at the elbow and slid on a K&N. Looks good and runs good.
