Dog died earlier on today...

Everything was fine then the engine died and all four indicators started to blink...

Tried disconnecting the battery and putting it back on, no luck...

I turn the key and all four indicators start to blink, and nothing else works...

Had to have the dog towed away, first time it happens to me with a bike, extremely frustrating...

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Bear in mind that I am in Brussels, Belgium... No BD dealerships in europe...

My dog is a 2004 Bulldog...

HEEEEEEEEELP, please...!

Another round please
Does your headlight turn on? I have a 04 bulldog, on my 3rd EHC. My headlight would always not work when I turned the key on when the EHC took a shit. I could push start it though and get it started up. Next time it goes bad, I am doing a wire plus change out.

Sorry for your lose, I won't be able to make the Funeral
Brussels is to dog Gone far

I'm sorry Bud, I just had to get that out of my system. :D :whoop: However, before you blame the EHC, check out your battery and charging system. How old is the battery and do you keep it on a tender. Sounds like you are not getting any power. Do a search and see what others have done to solve the same problem you are having. Hope you up and running soon. Good Luck

Didn't try the circuit breaker, didn't tried disconnecting the battery for more than a few minutes, I will try these today...

I'm pretty sure the battery is ok, I will check the voltage, but the dog was being used almost everyday...

Is there a procedure to reset 2004 ehc's? Is there a fuse somewhere that could have blown?

I have done some research and, as much as there seems to be a LOT of electrical problems in dogland, I found no post with the exact same symptoms as mine.

I think we need more details. Is it cranking or not. Do you have fuel going through the carb. Is there spark at the plugs. Details!!!

BDM released a retro EHC kit. Let's make sure which EHC you have before we go too far. Is it the stock black EHC with one connector and several wires exiting or is it a gold color EHC with an adapter board attached to it.

On the 05's and 06's I know the battery can fool you. When my battery died I would hit the start button the horn would beep and the lights would flash. Like stated above the battery voltage, bike not running got to be at least 12.8 I think. But even that can be misleading. Before you spring for a new ehc take the battery to someone with a tester and load test it. The symptoms can be different than someone else with same problem.

OK, tried disconnecting the battery for more than 15 mins, no change...

Tried the circuit breaker, no change...

CC: It does'nt crank, does'nt do anything in fact... when I turn the key the headlamp goes on for less than a second, then the indicators start blinking and NOTHING works, no headlamp, no horn, no starter, no change when I push the indicators, nothing at all...

My EHC is the gold version with the adapter board...

Will have the battery checked at a local shop on monday...

Had to ride the sportster today, not pleasant...

Please understand... the circuit breaker... was it tripped? Its only protection from the charging system to the battery and the electronics hooked to the battery. If it popped while riding from a spike or from jump starting the bike it would keep the bike from charging the battery. Then eventually the battery would die and so would the bike.

What is the battery voltage?

Circuit breaker was'nt popped... I just checked it, the little plastic bit pops out when it is tripped right?

Will check later on with jumper cables and the sportster battery...

Yep, you got it right. Sometimes its hard to realize it was tripped. The button is so small and it always sticks out a bit, but if you push it and you feel it click then it was popped... no biggie, just trying to help with it.

Try the jump start, and be sure to check the CB again after. Also, if you use a car in the end, make sure the car isn't running. A battery voltage check is really needed right now though...

It sounds like you have a short on you power up circuit. Little history. BDM found that if the power up circuit had a short on it then it could cause the motorcycle to stall. There was a fix in software for this so the motorcycle would not stall however with no power up circuit that means no rear running lights. If someone was riding in the dark that could be very unsafe so the software also added that the hazard lights should automatically come on. With out getting too technical it was required to freeze all inputs to keep the bike running. This would allow the person to keep riding home however if they stopped the bike and the short was still present you would see the symptonms you are seeing now. It was a trade off.

The power up circuit consists of: Marker/Running lights, Speedometer, Tachometer, and tag light. You need to check all these circuits for a short. I would start with the Tachometer. The little round clip that holds the tach board in had a habit of slipping out and shorting out the tach board. Make sure it is pushed in and not touching any of the wires going to the tach board. This will not damage you tach board, once you fix the clip everything would be fine. If this is not the problem the next thing I would do is disconnect all connectors for the power up circuit, turn on you bike. If it defaults to hazard you know there is probably a damaged wire somewhere that shorted and you need to find it, it could even be damaged connector under the tank. If this is the case you can measure continuity to ground on any of the red wires going to the components I listed above.

If you added any accessories to the bike that are wired to the power up circuit that could cause you problem as well. The power up circuit will go into protect mode when it sees over 4 amps of current draw. The standard items pull about 2Amps so that means you can connect something that pulls less than 2amps. Any more than that and you create a problem.

Hope this helps, get back to me if you need more help troubleshooting to find the short.

Thanks for the excellent info Night Train! I will have a look at the tach later on today if I find the time, what I don't understand though is that engine stalled as I was riding at the exact same time the indicators started blinking, I dont understand why the ehc it would have cut the ignition if the very purprose of this safety feature is to allow a safe trip home...

The bike should not have stalled. It is possible it has an older version of the firmware software. Check out the tach and we will go from there.
