PSI CARB question

I have a XXX carb on my bike and am very happy with it...the only thing I am not crazy about is the decel popping from which I understand is not only normal but a sign of a properly tuned engine. I believe that because my last dyno run I was pulling around 126 hp and 137 torque. My question is those of you who are running the psi are you having the decel popping as well????

I don't have the popping but thats not necessarily because of the carb. What pipes do you have? some pipes are worse than others. I didn't have the popping with my current pipes with the xxx either.

I just finished my winter mods - 07 K9.

  • XXX Carb (31int-78main)
Roland Sands - Venturi Air Filter for a CV carb modified to fit the S&S
    Dual coil setup
    Sterling Chromite ignition cables
    V&H Big Radius

Besides the bike running better than ever NOT A SINGLE de-acceleration pop. I could not believe it - I have had so many sets of pipes and air cleaners - this combination just works. Am so pleased, will not touch it for a while.

I bet you start to notice some trouble with those sterling wires. Dougg has an 07 k9 that started acting funny. No tail lites then high beam/low beam flash. Neutral lite when bike was in gear. We change his back to stock wires and all problems cured.

I have a PSI but decel pop is usually from either an exhaust leak or 2 into 2 exhausts.

if your rich with a PSI you can lean out the idle, midrange needle or main jet externally.

Pig Pen - Thanks for the warning - I have heard of strange things happening, will go get myself a set of regular spares.

PS. Do you know if this happens over time or is it one of those things that either works or doesn't.

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread. And on that note - Ray did an EXCELLENT post on "poping" usually to do with exhaust and intake leaks - also the poping is considered acceptable in certain cases. (I believe that the carb, air cleaner also have a play here).

Marve - I have a V&H 2-1 although the poping was MINIMAL it popped. What I did do differently with the Big Radius was use the THICK CONICAL exhaust gaskets. With the 2-1 I had used the FLAT racing exhaust gaskets. (So yes - check for an exhaust leak)
