Every life is important Al. You and everyone else here has a story too. I've enjoyed your story on rebuilding your bike. I really liked that springer you had as I had one too but sure don't miss it. They looked great but rode like a big truck or at least the old ones did! :lol:

I would like to hear about some others out there that have a story to tell.

6" of snow here yesterday so have nothing better to do than reflect of the past and share a story with all of you.

Jim McClure ..set up shop in Williamsburg VA . A master when it came to V-Twins ... His nickname "DA JUDGE" hears some cool stuff about him.

McClure, a native of Williamsburg, VA, was a 19-time champion in drag racing with nine of those championships with the AHDRA sanction. Known to many as "Da Judge", he passed away in 2004 following complications with his heart.

This guy was a ICON known to all who rode a Harley. Can't wait to hear Rays next segment.:2thumbs:

Thanks for the link. That's kool that his favorite NASCAR racer was Dale! Mine too. He re-built my motor to a 89" stroker motor. He personally did all the lower ends of each motor when built mine in 86!
I got to see him again back in the 90's when he came over to Hawaii for some racing. Great guy!

Do you guys over in Virginia know if his shop is still in operation? I hear he has a son running it now.

Anyone know?

I did a quick check ..and came up empty? But I had heard the same thing that his son was running it...I will call around this weekend and see??

Another COOL installment Ray. Glad you shared your inspiration for the paint and your love of the Louis L’Amour western books (I have read a few and I think my stepdad read them all). Probably a lot of reading time on a sub?

You will probably tell us, but how did you get the motor (bike too?) back east for the rebuild?

Man, your brother really went through Hell! Glad he was a fighter!

I had pulled the motor and transmission out and carried it back with me in a crate on the Greyhound bus. I only had part of the motor as the front cylinder and head were busted. And I grabbed the transmission. All the rest was scrap.

Found this picture showing the stripped down motor. This photo shows the front cylinder on but probably cause I couldn't get it off. :D

=Raywood;165762I never mentioned the inspiration that caused me to select the murals on the tins. I was a devout reader of Louis L’Amour. He put out a calendar that was based on western images so I had Spyder Lady paint the four scenes you’ve seen from that calendar.

Ray, they had a short segment on Louis L'Amour on CBS News Sunday Morning (good show) this am. It was on their Almanac segment. I thought about you (from your post above). Anyway wish you could have seen it and here are a few links.

ALMANAC: Novelist Louis L'Amour is born, March 22, 1908.
And they told about how many books he wrote, how he tried to be
true to the Old West, and about an award given by Ronald Regan.

Great story! It was 4 a.m. when I started it and here it is now almost 7 a.m. and about 4 cups of coffee later hanging on every word.....
Glad your brother is ok and can't wait to see your FIRST real build......
