My 05 Chopper has the S&S E carburetor Which came Stock. My only upgrades so far are pipes and air cleaner and rejeted carb. I was considering my next performance upgrade and read alot of the carburetor posts. I was thinking about doing an exchange with triple X and upgrade to The g carb with there typical modifications and matching manifold. ( I must say the bike runs pretty darn good with the current set up, however I have not dyno'd it ) I wrote to S&S and asked them about this G vs E and about triple X modifications. Below is a copy of the correspondence. I wonder what our members think . Any comments?
The G carb will give you more power on the top end but will take some from the bottom. I think the set up you have is pretty good, you may want to upgrade to a 585 camshaft. The reason the later model Big Dogs use the G carb was to get them certified for emissions in several states. I am not sure about the Triple X company but I do not think it is needed.
Thanks,
S&S
I have a 2005 big dog chopper with 1700 miles. The enjgine is a stock 117 ci except for the arlen ness 90 degree air cleaner and aftermarket mean mother pipes. My question is; Am I missing out on easy potential horse power with what I have? maybe I should upgrade to the G. I believe the newer 117 model have the G. Why? PS. What do you think of the triple xxx company and there reworking of your carbs? Maybe I should consider this. . thx mark
