Tachometer question

For some time now my tach has been on the fritz. It does actually work, but it's not accurate. It shows higher RPMs than the motor is turning, by about 500 rpms ish. Also, one of the amber high RPM lights stays on all the time. I think it's the second (or third) from the end.

What do ya'll think is most likely to cause the problem?

After I pull it apart I woud ensure that all the connections are tight and if they are then I would purchase a new tach board from Nelson.

Does that mean I also need to get that special tool to get the headlight assembly ring off, as well as a tach board?

Well the speedo is all held together with the two bolts on the under side of it. Then you can seperate the speedo from the tach board. Real easy once you get it apart and see how it's put together.

You should also have the new speedo mount. It's three times wider and was created to absorb more vibration. If you don't have it then have your delear get one for you. They will be covered by BDM.

I appreciate all the help, I need all I can get.

BTW, I had already checked about getting the new wider speedo base, the local dealer said it was not a recall item but maybe they could sell me one...
