Well I decided to warm up the garage and put the bike on the table and do some service work to it being its snowing and 17 degrees here in the Bend. As soon as I walked in the shop I noticed that all inspiring smell of VP Red 110 in the air. Didnt think anything of it until I pulled the cover off the scoot and found a nice puddle on the floor. So after scolded him for pissing on the floor, really isnt his fault he hasnt been outside in 2 months due to winter, I put him up on the table and lifted him up. Now I shut the fuel off when he was put up, and it was still in the off position. Upon further inspection, I traced the leak to the top of the petcock where it threads in the tank. I tightened it just a bit, and sat there with a buddy and drank a few beers and check it about 15mins later and it still leaking. First problem with this issue ever on my 2002 pit!! Anyone have any ideas if this is a replacement with the whole petcock, or is there a seal in there or........................?

Don't know about the 02's but the 03 I had the the 05 I have use EMC petcocks.

I would say just pull the collar off after you drain the tank then clean it all up and put new sealer on it and put it back together. Can't remember if there is a rubber washer in there or a seal though.

I'll be damned!! I actually seen the stamped EMS on both of mine. Maybe they get supplied from both companies and it's hit and miss.

If it is leaking around the threads it might not need rebuilding like Ray said take it off clean it up put some more sealer on it and tighten it down and see what happens.

I've got an 07 K9 and i can't pull the screen out without lifting up the tank. It hits on the engine. Does the 124" engine sit higher than the 117"?

Well the stroke on the 124 is 1/4 longer than the 117 so I would say the height increase would be close to that.

you run 110 octane?

Tell me more.
The guy I bought the pit from from bought it new and owned it less than a year and ran VP Red in it since day one, so I just kept it in there. I put pump gas in there a few times and I could tell the difference right away. I dont know if it really adds much for horses, but it seems to run a little cooler and smoother with it. I buy from a local supplier here called Circle Oil. They have a web site circleoil.com that explained a lot about VP fuels. The last time I was in there I bought the last fuel I needed for the year at the end of October and she was telling me that it was the last of the Red they were getting because VP was not selling red anymore due to something about Torco started dying there fuel red so they were changing. But ya I love the smell of cotton candy rolling out the bike and love to watch the people's eyes I right with tear up when they are behind me.
Ok now for my question, Is there a specific sealer I need to use on the threads of the petcock, and is it still the common "righty tighty, lefty loosey" to remove it? Also isnt there a screen at the top and should it be cleaned while I have it out?

Hey, being the cheap ass that I am, and doing most all my own plumbing on my old rental properties I own, I have found that TEFLON TAPE is the best thing going. It's cheap and [hope I'm not jinxing myself here] I have never had it fail.

I know, you look at it and ask, "Is this really gonna' work?" And, it does every time. Just wind it around the threads about three times - in the direction you will tighten - and it's like a miracle.

Thin. Cheap. And it works.

Just like my favorite kind of woman!
