I wish I had more money.
One of our guys here put one of the auto clutches on his bike if I am not mistaken. I was just wondering about how it was doing. If the bike is modded and how much. Can you jsut ream on it? Just a little insider info on it. Thats all. I may do something like that if it works that good.

What it one of these? Scroll down to the 5th to last photo to find Baker / Big Dog Drop Starter Slam Auto Clutch. I'm building a bobber with a suicide shift and was contemplating getting this same setup by V-Twin. The only difference is the cost of $230 instead of $700. That whole foot clutch thing is more of a pain in the ass IMO.

Click on Shop on Line on the left column then Auto Clutch at the top.

Another way thats nice to run a jockey shift is to go with a hydraulic clutch, then mount a slave cylinder so you can also use a hand clutch too. Use the hand clutch when stopping and the foot clutch when cruising. Some people don't like to do this because they are trying to keep the handlebars clean, but I rode an ironhorse with this setup and it was a blast.

The one that I was talking about was one that you still shifted but didn't use the clutch. Like some of the fourwheelers out there. Let off the throtle and shift. No clutch pull. I was wondering if if could stand the horse power or what. I tend to ride it like I stole it.

What needs to be changed to mount a hydraulic clutch?

I think your talking about the bdl that uses bearings that spin out to apply pressure instead of springs or a diafram pressure plate. I'm sure that the other manufactures also have their version but I would think they all work the same(centrifugal)pressure plate idea.

I looked into the auto clutch, was thinking about doing it with the KRATA open primiary I just installed, another member here installed one with open primiary and had problem, it would heat up the outer bearing in the support and melted it. he told me he had to remove and shim to adjust out slipping 20 times. put remember this is with a open primary with outer bearing support. the member was ( dog1) maybe he will have more info.

Well that depends if we are talking a new build or a big dog. On a new build its easy because you have to buy hand controls anyway so just buy a hydraulic clutch one instead of a cable one. Its only a few bucks more. Then you need a hydraulic actuator which is built into the transmission trap door. Again if you don't already have a transmission you can buy one with the hydraulic trap door already installed. If you are going to convert a big dog well thats a whole different story the biggest problem here is the hand controls and handlebars. However I think lambo1 used something that was a cable on top and hydraulic on trans.

Thanks Alhall. I was thinking of doing this on my bobber project. I already have a Jay Brake Hydraulic clutch / brake combo lined up. Do you know a ball park $ amount to have the actuator built into the trap door on a stock HD 5 speed?

Well its not built into it, you more or less just replace your existing trap door with a hydraulic type. I've seen them around $200 to $700. Here's an example of a complete setup (probably an import) from MC advantages. MC Advantages :: Hydraulic Clutch Conversion Kit For 5/6-Speed ’84-’99 BT

I think Lambo went the other way... hydro up top to cable near where the adjuster is at on the down tube. This way he was able to run internal clutch line to the handlebars
