Hey, I've had this issue from day one but yesterday it was bad..but of course it was my fault. I parked my bike and FORGOT TO TURN OFF THE PETCOCK...when I tried to start it I had a ton of raw fuel come out the pipes and fuel coming out the air filter...is this normal for our dogs when we dont turn off the petcock? I would think you wouldn't need to turn the petcock off? Are my floats stuck or ????? please input..

Thanks

Time to pull apart the carb and clean it and replace the needle. Absolutely not normal and change the oil as well. That raw fuel has contaminated your oil.

What Vegas said! Clean out the carb, you will be amazed at what you find in there and how much better it will run afterwards. Our gas is dirty. Many on here can tell you stories.

And use the petcock!!! Why do you think they put it on there?

Do I need to get a carb kit to pull bowl and check needle and seat or can I get away without one? how can I check to see if I have a fuel contamination in oil? Thanks

If raw fuel is comming out of your pipes then chances are the fuel leaked past your rings and into your crank case, your best bet is to change the oil before you ride again or you could do some real damage to your engine. you shouldn't need a carb kit just to clean your carb.

If your float sticks open shouldn't that fuel come out the over flow tube?
Yes it should but Dog1 also noted it was coming out of the air cleaner, so it very well could have gotten into the intake and thats down hill to the cylinders.

Change the oil better safe than sorry:hi:

The overflow tubes will yellow and harden within a year. You might want to pull it, inspect and replace if neccesary. They are cheap. The one on my 08 is kinda melted about 2" up from the end already.:spank:

What type of engine damage can you do with fuel in oil? I get mixed opinions that traces of fuel in oil will evaporate and you wont hurt motor? One said that since I saw fuel come out the pipes that the fuel stayed atop the pistons in the cylinders and chances that (if any) a small amount may have by passed the rings but this amount will evap. what do you guys think?
