Dog down again!

Things where great until I pulled up to a red light. Dog
just cut off!! Tried several times to restart it no luck.
It would turn over and then the turn lights would
start blinking. Had to have it towed home. A month
ago same thing, Rruff and I found that the EHC had
significant corrision on the connectors. cleaned them
up and all was well. The difference this time is no
starting after some time. Thinking of replaceing the
voltage regulator and the ehc. I've checked the battery
connectors and tested the battery. All good, the one
thing that is wierd this time is that the battery tender
will not go to a full charge??(Green Light) Tried jump
starting it off the car but no luck. all lights work but just wont
start. How much should the voltage regulator and EHC cost?
For this bike to only have 3000 miles on it this sucks!!! It's
a 06 k9 and no warrenty on it. I would like to do the repairs
myself if I can get the parts.

if using a car battery didnt work i'd say pull the starter and take it to an alternator shop and have it checked. if its bad its only about 100+ to rebuild.

much cheaper then throwing parts at it.

Jumping these bikes will blow your circuit breaker. I bet it's tripped. Ask me how I know. :D

Don't buy anything until you do some troubleshooting. Check the simple stuff first like making sure there is gas in the carb. Get yourself a voltage tester and check the electrical stuff. First check your battery voltage. They say you want 12.8v, but mine's been starting just fine around 12.3. Next turn the key on and push the RUN button, then check for 12v down at the coil. If you don't have juice there, open up your handlebar switch and check the connections. Not sure if your EHC has a RUN light, but if it does, make sure it's coming on when you hit the RUN button. Once you verified that you have juice at the coil, check the little wire going into the starter, it should get 12v when you hit START. If it's not, your problem could be a bad handlebar switch/connection or EHC related. A bad starter doesn't explain why the bike just died while running. If your battery is draining or not holding a charge while on the tender, you could have a short somewhere.

what about the turn signal blinking when
I hit the start button? where is the circuit
breaker on the 06 K9. I heard it had a reset
button on it? The cutting off while running
is what has got me going nuts.

Well lets here it Vegas.
You got a deal....

This was on my 05 mastiff about 3 years ago. Bike had been sitting for a while and one of those last minute deals. I jumped it and took off to meet a good buddy on the West side of town. Rode it about 15 miles to his house and we took off. My headlight gradually got dimmer and dimmer until the bitch cracked and popped and died. Had to ride bitch on my buddies purple fatboy:roll:   Of course a group of riders pulled up next to us at a stop light. Soon after figured out that I had popped my circuit breaker jumping the bike.

Did you fill your EHC connector cavity with dielectric grease??? It will wreak havoc on the electronics if you don't.

Had very close to the same problem on my 06-K9. It was the voltage regulator killing everything. It was under recall too!

Jerr,
Tell us a little more about the "Start button and turn signal" .... is it any thing like this?.....(my bike runs but may have similar symptoms - I am close, very close to resolving this one and should have it nailed before the end of this week) let us know....

Alicat, what exactly were your symptoms? Was it anything like out lined in this post? http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/technical/8200-eletrical-ehc.htmlWhat did you do to pin point it to the VR? I have focused on the harness and EHC...didn't even think of looking at the VR...silly me..

Either way hang in Jerr, we will fix this pup...(ther is a daignostics PDF somewhere out here - will do a search and post the link - did you get a chance to look at that?)

I think/belive the flow chart link and PDF may have been removed cause of copyright infringment. Did a search on "flow chart" and got some references to the link however it has been removed. Do you happen have a copy of it?

What happened with mine was even though it was hooked p to the charger all night and got a green light on it, bike would turn over once but not start then next the lights would flash and horn would beep once but not turn over. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one. The next morning after being on the charger same thing! I then just had it towed into a shop and they determined VR was bad. Replaced it and no problems since! Do a search here on VR recall, it lists a serial number for the recalled VR's.

Thanks for all the help! I just ordered a new VR and a EHC. I felt like
it's just a matter of time before I will need them. Full House Cycles
in Virginia were a great help. I do reccomend them for parts. They
gave me a recall sheet on my bike. Shit I think everything on it
has been replaced once. VR, EHC, STARTER, Gaskets, Strut Bolts,
Hand Controls, Battery, and many other things. I wish I would have
known this before I bought it. I was thinking that a 06 k9 with only
1200 miles is like new. Brother was I wrong about it.
