Using oil

Energy One
I have an 06 K9 with 20,000 miles, it uses about a quart of oil evry 1000 miles, it dosent smoke, the pluges have alot of carbon build up, the vent hose of the heads back into the carb is not dripping alot of oil like the old HD's use too, there are no oil leaks, the inside of the pipes are not real wet, I know is burning the oil but what is causing the issue? I talked to the to a few folks and they say that it could be the reed valve or something assosiated with it. Any help would be appriciated.

Also;am I the only one haveing issues with there clutch rod shaft? I have been through 2 of them they get scored, groved, and I have to constantly adjust the clutch.

Make sure you put some good teflon grease or anti-seize on your rod and it won't wear like that. Mine did it once and I greased it up good and been fine ever since. It was dry as a bone when it started to get a slight squeak in it!

Sounds like valve guide issues. That's more oil use than the last three S&S engines I have owned.

if you still have the TP rocker boxes, you may want to have your valve guides checked for "ovaling". this may be your problem. the TP boxes have been known to cause problems with the top end on these motors.

Based on personal experience with worn valve guides, I would say its a reed valve problem which may be causing blow by. If it was worn or oval valve guides it would smoke.

The guides in my heads are oval-ed and being replaced as we speak.. never had any smoke just a tick in the rear head. All thanks to the TP boxes...
