Importance of Heated Storage??

All - just looking for some advice/guidance on the importance of Heated storage for a Michigan Winter. I was planning to keep my K9 in the garage - uninsulated, potentially jacking up the rear tire to take pressure off, putting a carpet under the bike, battery tender and adding fuel mixture - basically following the post from GASMAN.

There is a local place that will store the bike in a heated area - covered for $250.00 for 5 months and they change the oil.

Is this a good idea vs. the garage? I would rather keep the bike at home so I can screw around with it a little but will move it to the storage area if it will be important to keeping the bike running well over its life.

I would want my bike where I can see it. Bikes don't get colds. Go get a electric blanket, throw the blanket over it, turn on the heat. Nice, warm, cuddly bike.

Anyone that wants to send your bike down here to New Mexico I will ride it for you throughout the cool winter months. Its chilly here 35 this morning but at least its 65 now :roll:

Last year, I kept my bike on the battery tender and under a cover in my unheated garage with a GoldenRod under the cover.

The Golden Rod keeps the temperature under the cover a few degrees higher than the garage and that helps to drive moisture away from the bike.

This year, I will be using the dealer's heated storage which includes fluid changes and complete detailing in the spring ($550.00). Doing this for 2 reasons....need space in the garage for a project and the dealer is sending the battery covers back to BDM for re-painting.

Just my 2cents.........I think I got the same letter...I would no
way in HELL store my bike with them...I have seen too many bikes
come out of that place from getting service work done or even
picking up a new one with 2 inches of dust and scratches on them.

I will take my chance here at home...Now if I can just convince
the wife, it needs to come inside for the winter..

One time and the last time my bike was ever there. I still lived in GB and had the bike there for service. I was out of town. Dropped it off on a Tuesday before leaving. Friday they called and said it was done. I told them I was out of town and would get it when I get back in town the following week. Sat they called me. "Are you going to pick up your bike?" I told them "yes when I get home on Wed, so put it in the corner and forget about it. They told me "they don't have much room and wouldn't want anything to happen to it."

WTF is that shit! FUCK THEM!

I hear ya about the location - I think i will just keep the bike in the garage and take the necessary steps to help it to hibernate safely. Besides I might need that $250 the way things are going in Detroit.

Here is the proper storage...by the bar in my basement. The good thing is it comes out in just over a month when I get home. Yes, I'll ride er as long as there is no snow or ice. Damn I can't wait.
