Factory Maintenance

Do you guys bring your Big Dogs to the BD dealership for scheduled maintenance?
The reason im asking is because the last time i went they got me for $1800.00 plus. They seem to find things that need to be changed. Im not happy with the Big Dog dealership service in Louisiana. They had my bike there almost 2 months & didn't even fix the problem i had with the bike. After getting home i had to put a new damn battery in the bike.

I took mine to the only bigdog dealer in Arkansas. But they've always treated me right. I would find another dealer, even if you have to drive a little farther. If there a good shop its worth the trip

I do all my own maintenance. Save yourself some cash and do your own also. With all the great info on the forum its an easy task. Also the pride of working on your own scoot is very cool.

You paid $1800???

That is not a screwing....it is RAPE!

WTF did you have done to that thing?
Gold plate the reverse mechanism?

A Louisiana whore would have cost you a 10th of that
and it would have been the best screwing you ever had.

First thing I bought for the RK was a service manual. I have save hundreds every season. Most service is pretty basic and can be done with minimal tools and knowledge. Just changing my own tires saves me over $100 each time and that's for one. Fluid and oil filter change saves me $75. Once you get the hang of it it's a lot of fun and a great satisfaction knowing you did it yourself. Oh and did I mention you get to do it on your schedule and no waiting. Oh, I almost forgot. A couple beers and your all set!:2thumbs:

Brought the bike there because of oil leak. Changed gaskets never fixed leak brought it there twice. Changed brake pads. Called me & told me my rotors were bad front & rear BS. Gave me a price of $1600.00 on phone for everything total. When i pick the bike up bill was 1800.00 plus. Felt like someone put a gun to the back of my head. Have not been back 2 years. Only Big Dog dealer left in Louisiana. Harley Davidson of Baton Rouge.

I agree with the other guys!!! If you can, do the work yourself. You will save a ton of $$ that you can spend on other fun.

Paid $202.00 for a tire change at BD Stealer, ruined brake caliper and rotor in the process ( brake fluid leak, over tightened bleeder striped out threads ) cost me another $500.00 to fix there bad work. They said bike was fine sent me home with a rear brake that made the most noise I have ever heard coming from any brake.

I just changed my front tire for $110. Cost of the front tire $110 did it myself and nobody messed up my bike. While the tire/rim was off I polished it so that means I had to pull rear tire to polish that rim too. Oh yeah it did cost me about 12 pack of Miller Lite and 2 Acids Kuba Kuba Cigars

Unfortunately, this sounds like a typical Harley dealer to me, not a good Big Dog dealer. A call to Big Dog customer service may be in order on this one...

Sorry for your difficulties.

There are several places here in La that do warrantee and service work on bigdogs that are not dealers.

Pick up a thunder roads mag, it'll tell you in there.

we also have BD of N.O.s too.

But strongly agree that BD of Baton Rouge sucks gator hide!!!!

For the $1800+ you could have bought a nice lift and all the tools needed to make repairs plus the manual. THere are enough folks on here to help with anything you can throw at us. First time I had mine for service was also the last!

It's a rare occasion when i bring my bike to the dealer. As you know it is not the easiest thing to completely stop an oil leak. After i brought it there twice for nothing i was able to trace the leak to a plug on back of the case. Pulled the plug & wraped it with teflon tape still leaked. Took a picture of the plug called BD & emailed them the picture. They told me that was not the plug they put on that bike. They sent me another plug at no cost. How did that plug get on my bike? Only the dealer could have put it there. Anyway that solved 98% of the leak problem. Im working on the other 2% which is somewhere else. That was my first trip to that dealership & my last.

John,
Is that leak coming from under the back of your inner primary?

No it's not coming from there.

Not leaking very much so it may take me awhile to find it. I going to clean the motor, take it for a good ride & see if i can spot any oil. It may just be a hose.

Thanks

John
