Most miles on a K9???

I know 'Raywood' has about a million or so miles on his 2005 Chopper:whoop::lol: , but who among you has some high mileage on their K9's?

The reason I ask...I'm considering trading in my '05 chopper on an '09 K9 with the complete chrome package and the new "detachable" saddlebag set-up (depending upon what it looks like once it's released), and am looking for K9 owner feedback.

So for the high mileage K9 group, three questions:

1. How has your bike performed so far? Any mechanical/electrical issues?

2. How has the ride been? What's the max miles per day, w/o brick butt?

3. If you could change anything about your K9, what would it be?

Thanks a lot for any & all input!
:)

I have 2006 K9 that has 16,000 miles on it. For the most part the bike has performed great. The only issues are the ones most people on the forum discuss ie, clutch nut coming loose, voltage regulator recall, strut bolts. I did have the same issue with the shitty clutch BD uses so i installed a Bandit that works great. I added a XXX carb, Powerpacc back plate, Woods 650 cam and springs Fourbidden pipes and the bike pulls your ass off the seat:cheers: I also installed BD touring seat that makes a world of difference on the cheeks. I have rode to Sturgis and back 3 times 1,000 mile trips each and over the Rockies with no issues.:D

I have a 2007 K9.
I put almost 10k on it my first year. Only problem has been a broken clutch cable.

I've gone on several 400+ mile day rides and depending on the seat the butt isn't happy. My single seat is much more comfortable than the 2 up seat not sure why.

I put the chrome spike pegs and grips on and at 80+ mph and on the longer trips
probably not the best. without the rubber my feet like to vibrate off the pegs and hands hurt from ridges on spikes after long rides but I like the look

I don't think I would change anything except I would like the fender lower like the ridgeback.

Let us know abt the saddle bag option. I just ordered the luggage rack and a bag. I'm tired of my harley friends carrying my stuff

TCALZ06 - I hear you...saddlebags are nice and handy on the longer trips, but I don't want the permanent hard bags like they're putting on the new Bulldog "Bagger" for 2009. If you're gonna have a custom bike, "detachable" would be nice as long as the fastening system works and looks good when the bags aren't on the bike. We'll have to wait and see what it looks like  whenever BDM finally releases it for the K9...hopefully soon.

I've ridden my from D.C. to Calif.--have about 20,000. It's a 06, but due to faulty parts, my tranny was just totally rebuilt by Big Dog:flag: :2thumbs:

I think Bru had over 18,000 on his K-9 and he had about that much on his 05 Chopper before he traded.

I have put over 6000 miles on my 06 K9 so far this year. Lost over two months of riding time because of a couple of problems. Down one month on the transmission failure. No complaints here though, BDM fixed the transmission even though my warranty had expired. Clutch nut issue, and speedometer problems. But BDM covered all of it.

The bike rides great. I have no complaints about the ride. It rides better than I thought it would. We usually ride about 300 to 350 a day. We do stop about every 70 to 80 miles though. This seems to keep the brick butt down a little.

The only thing I would change.......need a softer seat and a gas cap that is easier to grab a hold of.

07 K9, ~8500 miles

Longest day this past Wed. 618 to FL. Going back to Raleigh Tue and looking forward to it.

The usual relatively minor issues much discussed here.

What I would change/fix is ride height right now is too low for some reason with my air ride setup. I've been dragging frame all too often on this trip; I'm not sure why right now. I would fix the clutch and have a spare cable on hand.
