I am pretty sure my battery took a crap on me today. I rode most the day, stopped to rest, when I got back on, I turned the key, both turn signals were flashing, and the motor turned over for about a half second then stopped. I started the bike easily with a jumper box. I also noticed that two of the LEDs on the license plate frame were flashing, one was out, and the other on was steady on (this continued even after I got it started). Dont know what the hell that means. Anyway, I know alot of you guys run batteries other than the BDM brand, but I am getting this load of crap that from another guy with a bigdog. He says the dealership told him he coudnt run anything other than a BDM battery. Any of you guys ever heard this? Do you guys know of any battery brand I should stay away from? Thanks in advance.

my tag lights did the same thing, the dealer had to replace the light board. as for the battery the dealer is full-a-shit. many of the guys on here run the Harley AGM battery, try to get one that is 310cca or more.

Also check your charging system your bike may have a faulty voltage regulator. This was on most 05 and some 06 there was a recall with a fuse repair but if the regulator is bad you may have to replace. There is thread on here showing what to check out. :2thumbs:

It's due for a battery. I have an 06 and I know it's only a matter of time. Do check the other things mentioned.

I agree, whoever told you your Dawg HAS to have a BD battery is full of shit. I've been running an Interstate in my Mastiff for over a year now with absolutely NO problems.!!!! Get yourself a new battery.!!!

Fuck that... just go to the HD dealer and get a AGM battery for any year softail. DONE! Just make sure its the AGM.

The turns flashing is the EHC warning you it has low voltage.

The tag lights is a seperate problem. One of the LED's is out or going out and unless you can soldier a new one on, just buy a new LED board kit from your local dealer or nelson. Its a easy job.

At the risk of sounding stupid...what is AGM? Not that I am doubting you Gasman, just for future knowledge. And what's the difference between an AGM and a plain jane battery?

Exactly what Dave said... its the new way of battery ways. More resistant, holds a better charge, can take a higher amp charge, and most importantly more resistant to vibration.

RIDE IT HARD!!!
I put an HD battery in mine at the start of the season and no problems at all starting the DOG. You just want to keep it on a tender when it's in the pen.:2thumbs:
