Mean mother super trapp exaust

I'm buying a 2005 BD Chopper with mean mother super trapp exaust already on the bike. Are these aftermarket pipes? and are they any good? Better sound or extra horsepower ? would the carburator required alteration for these?

thx for everyones input

I have them on my 06 K9 - They are aftermarket - I am very happy with the sound and performance.

BBChopper had a problem with his (see pipes) so you should probably check them closely.

They were one of the first accessories available for the new 05 when it was introduced as the new RSD bike.

They came with jet kit and instructions to remove the restrictor plates.
Some issues with breakage but they replaced them as needed.

 :flag:

By the way, what the number on it? I have #29!!!

Yeah not sure what happend, Thats the upper pipe I was dragin the lower and its fine except for the scrapes... heat shileds suck, I have seen lots of threads on that.
They do sound and prform good!!!

I was looking at this post and I was curious about your question relative to "what number is it " ? I not sure what you mean. The bike number fom the 05 lot ?

They are very free flowing pipes, even with the baffles. They will allow more air flow if you free up the intake with a K&N filter #3226 ($40)...usally you will have to up the jets to get the propper tune ($10)...Cost total about an extra $50 plus the pipes. You will feel and hear the difference...With the propper tune (Gas How to $0))you will get better throttle response and stronger pull through the entire rpm range...

With that you will sometimes get a little decel pop whitch can be tuned out a little and curious looks from the neighbors as well a cagers...

All in all, this is the "upgrade" that has the most dramatic effect on the bike...A must do change in my book...

I have the Mean Mothers on mine and have since day one. Had problems with the first mounting brackets with cracking. Went through two sets of them and then the third one was an improvement being 150% thicker than the first (3/8 verse 1/4 steel). Also had the heat shield mounts bust on one were the clamps ran through, had to weld it up.

The baffles also tend to rattle and come loose, but I ended up taking care of that too. Nice sounding pipe and the performance is comparable to other good ones. Mine have seen their use and abuse and until I find a good 2-1 pipe that gets my goat, the Mean Mothers do just fne.

Another round please
Make sure the baffles and the end cap nuts are tight. My baffle and end cap fell out on me the other day while going down the road. :bang:

You can use some High temp RTV on the inside edge of the end cap...mine came with the red type. RTV along with some lock tight on the screws and viola...
although barhopper you will still need to check them periodically as with all the shit that wants to loosen up and fall off...:bang:
