mine was the bulb when it happened to me. If that headlight is not tight the vibrations can knock out an element

My money goes on the EHC....Also, another culprit might be the headlight connector inside the bucket. My 04 Mastiff came up on the dealers list for a recall on this connector. I had it fixed a couple weeks ago and it was literally fryed when the tech got to it.!!!

Been wet???

Has anyone had to replace the board behind the high-low beam switch? Is that a possible cause?

Have you gotten the handlebars controls wet lately.....rain, washing...etc??? I got caught in a rainstorm back during the summer and had problems with some lights.

It's your EHC. My 04 chopper did the same thing. Replace EHC your problem will go away.

Again guys... the EHC.

I say that these BDM bikes have bad ground issues that need attention.

(1) No hard ground back to the battery like most other VR's do
(2) the headlight ground should not run all the way back to the battery as it does and should (but can't) be grounded as close to the bucket as possible.
(3) There is about 12" of extra ground wire coiled up inside the headlight bucket that should not be there.

In the 12 volt industry, as I have done alot in all my life, owning my own shop and working for a few others. I have been doing remote car starters, car audio, alarm systems and home automation and long grounds, especially with small gauge wire and on a headlight that draws decent current, is not a good thing.

Just replaced my EHC in June. I really don't know what the hell is going on with the low beam. Man these DOGS really have some electrical issues that for sure.

I'm going to change the board on control and see if that fixes the problem.

I would also look in your manual and find out what color wires the high and low bean are and trace them back under the tank and see if you have a grounded wire.
This just happened to me on the way to Sturgis and was a grounded wire.

Yeah check the wire connections under the tank.

Also, was the headlight connector in the bucket in good condition?

NO LOW BEAM

The low beam went out on my light, no fault indicator light showed on the EHC. I completed a full check on the wiring and could not get any fault light indication on the EHC until checked at the main plug for the forward wiring harness.

Just thought I'd post an update to my light problem, I changed the EHC and everything is working fine again. I'm sending the old unit, which is an upgrade to the original, back to BD for them to check.

From what I was to understand the fault indiciator should have shown a problem. I'll let the pound members know what I find out?

Mine just started doing this yesterday while I was on my way back from a ride. My highbeam all of a sudden came on and would not revert back to the low beam when I push the low beam button. The low beam fault light on the ehc lights up when I depress the low beam button then quickly goes off. Since the ehc is noticing the fault my guess is it might be the small microboard in the contols that might have gone bad or like Raywood said, it could be a bad ground under the tank. Any ideas?

If you have checked the bulb and a new bulb does the same thing, It will be the EHC.

If the PC board goes bad in the control it will not even try to switch back and forth. If it trys, then the board is good and the EHC is bad.

Good Luck!!
