So, I'm riding back from a bike night last night and lost the clutch cable on my way home. I was lucky and made it home with only blowing one red light, minimal traffic out.

I'm thinking now that vice having the BDM shop here replace the cable with another one that might break, has anyone replaced their's with an aftermarket cable? If so, who's?

Anyone know the cable specs off hand? Length, etc...?

Gas, while we got my rear tire off next weekend and the clutch cable pulled off of the front pulley cover, remind me to remind you to check the cable for fraying. May be running down to the parts store with Cutter to get this replaced.

No change in feeling. I had just shifted to 6th and if was fine. Next thing I know is the lever is up against my fingers. I moved it back and forth and there was no resistance at all.

From what I hear is that they mostly break where they go into the right side drive and they say to get the best life out of them is to screw the cover off the front of R.S.D. and keep it greased.

I only have 5000 miles on it, I can imagine what really went wrong. I just want to replace it with a known quality cable.

They are Barnett cables so doesn't get much better than that. My first went out at about 18/19,000 (been so long now but summer 05!) and this one has last since.

Don't know the length off hand but Nelson can get one to you pretty quick.

Easy to change also.

Have fun

:D

If that's the case I'll just take it in, I need the 5K service done anyway.

Good to hear you got her home....like Raywood said, they're a quality cable from Barnett and are marked in the BDM parts system as inches over or under standard. Mine was marked "4 inches understandard." What they calabrate as "standard" is beyond me. Just replaced mine at 16,500--before the break monster could arrive.

Hey Tim glad you made it home ok. Mine went out last October at about 5K miles in Orlando. It had frayed up by the lever. Tampa store (Tanya's) replaced mine N/C when I brought it to their store. They were great about it...
Good Luck and ride safe,
Al

The cable end in the pulley cover has a split ball that holds it in the ball ramp. If theat split ball isn't adequately greased during service, the cable will flex at the ball instead of rotating with the ball resulting in a failure just beyond the cable end.

No problem seat... just make sure we check it out.

Tim, are you sure you just don't have a loose tranny nut?

As Ray said... now the BDM cables are barnett. I have a replacement in my garage just for such occurance.

I dropped my bike of yesterday so, I'm just waiting on the shop to check it out and tell me what's wrong. They are trying to get the cable in and my bike back to me before I go back to work. They didn't look happy about having it sit in the shop for a month if they can't get it done by Wednesday, but they are going to try.

The weather is cooling down and I wish I had the bike here to ride.

I'm thinking having a spare cable on hand is still a good idea.
