Gas leaking out of tank from right side cap?

:angry: Bike cut off on me while on the way to work this morning. Luckily I was only a short distance from work so I parked and walked. When i returned to pick-up the dog she was leaking alot of gas from the right side gas cap.:bang: I just filled up yesterday evening. Any help solving appreciated.

The dual cap tanks are typically vented on the right hand side. If your cap will allow air to flow "out" fuel could as well. The left hand side are typically not vented.

One possible cause is that you may have overfilled your tank so that the gas pushes up against the cap and leaks when you lean the bike.

Thanks for the help. I guess the direct sunlight made the gas expand and it vented thru the right side gas cap. Now I have to figure out why she cut off.:bang:

I have had it occur occasionaly on my 05, however it is always on the left side since that is the low side when on the stand. Regardless it is usually due to filling it up to top off and not getting enough miles to allow for the expansion with heat.

If I do not plan on riding it right away at least 15 miles, then I do not top it all the way off.

Take the guts out of the right side cap assembly, the hex bolt removes the culprit that causes the issue. Worked for my 04.
