BDM has been working on getting into canada and several other markets for several years, so this is not something they are going for all of a sudden. Have not heard about getting into the UAE.
They have been taking applications for canadian dealers for at least six months now.

thanks for the info ray. interesting comments guys. i hate to hear of more layoffs at bdm but i think mr. coleman is an old warhorse who will be standing when the economy does clear. my fear, like that of many, is that we have not seen the worst yet (for example, as we speak the feds are taking over the two big mortgage lenders who have contributed to the real estate bubble more than anyone else in my humble opinion). there is more shit headed for the fan.
i think just staying alive has to be the goal for bdm right now. but those folks who are loosing their jobs are real---they have families and many will suffer. sad.

What the fuck is a Piaggio?

2 wheels or 4 wheels. Can't understand anything inbetween. Just my opinion. Local dealer let me have one of these for a few hours. A blast for sure, and fast! Just didn't feel right.

hard to believe there down to 100 people left.

lets face it 35k plus bikes are a luxury. i would think a smaller company with more options is the way to go, kinda of more custom. there will always be a certian amount of people that have extra cash ,,,so going more custom i believe is the way to go.

We had a meeting about this a long time ago at Dig dog. Sheldon said that we were still taking a look at all the red tape and different restrictions these different markets have. A lot of the different dig dog modals need some rework to fit the different operating standards these other markets have (not sure of the details on this). It did sound like at the time Canada would be the first one we could qualify for.

Losing employees that actually perform good work for the riders is ludicrous.

I'm in a foul mood right now, due to BDM's arrogant attitude toward "consumers", with regards to their diagnostics software. They continue to exhibit the arrogant attitude of not talking directly to this "consumer" with a $32K plus scoot. Several sources have gone out of their way to be supportive, but the company attitude is "I don' giv'a dam about you".

Also, their member web page is broke. Where's the e-newsletter? I would have loved to do a testimonial not long ago...

They need to work a hell of a lot harder building customer loyalty one bike at at time.

Times are tough ...I see it EVERYWHERE. Be thankful if your employed,hold on its going to get better . Bigdog WILL be ok , I hate it when good people lose there jobs and livelyhood...I'm sure it was a do or dye to servive. Think about having to layoff good people to stay afloat ...it would suck !!! If you can do many things and are not lazy ..you will always prevail and servive !!! I have been on my own from 16years of age ... I could make it on the streets if I had to ..........Hay who ate my cheese???

For all those who don't know. Piaggio make Vespa scooters that have been around for many years. They will start to get popular in the big cities for commuting purposes. I already see a big huge influx of scooters here in NYC. As the economy continues to decline, people are finding alternative ways to get around. You gotta see these asshats that ride around the city weaving in and out of traffic on those things. Tottaly annoying.

Tough luck the the workers at the puppy farm, hope they all land on their feet. As for the company I hope they will strive on because this is one hell of a product that we all have invested in.

Look for Big dog to shut its doors soon and for the rest of the employees to be out looking for a job. In todays market its hard to sell a $30,000 bike. Sheldon should have listened when we told him to build a poor mans bike. One that sells for a third of the cost. Right now he has a warehouse full of bikes he cant sell. Take $30,000 and times it by over 300. He is sitting on alot of inventory he can't unload. Its going to end up where he is going to lock up on Friday and not open on monday. When the employees come back to work they wont have a job. Coleman will bail soon. He is in the game to make money and so far he has taken losses for the past 2 years. Look for him to be pulling out soon.

That's not good!!:(

BTW, Scuba, you're cheeze didn't get eaten, it got moved...:)

With what they are coming out with and what is coming, I would doubt the ex employee is going to say anything good about the company. No one likes getting let go. but hey, history will tell.
