looks like we have tropical storm #8 coming our way, oscar. take care of yourself, looks like gus is supposed to hit as a heavy cat4/light cat5. if there is such a thing as a light cat5.

There was a conversation around the office yesterday about the fact that NO didn't really learn any lessions after Katrina, and that they are still ill-prepared for another cat 4/5 hurricane. Someone said that NO would be flooded just like the first time, if not worse. Is that true?

Oscar,

It's still pretty far out and maybe too soon to tell but
if things look like you have to get out remember you have been threatening to visit  and the offer is still good.

Hurricanes

Yes, this really putting everyone on notice.

Korben, there is so much more to this story than just New Orleans and a levee break which caused the most damage with Katrina. The Louisiana coastline is rapidly eroding and needs more attention than the fishbowl that N.O. is sitting in.

The storm surge, rising water from these Hurricanes and Tropical depressions probably causes most flooding damage. I live about 20-25 miles from the GOM as the crow flys. If we don't start attacking coastal errosion soon my home will become beachside property in 50 years if not sooner. The saltwater intrusion is depleting our marshlands. There will be no more barriers between the GOM and southern La. The heavy oil & gas industry here in La. has played a major part in the decline of our wetlands over the past 50 years.

Curt

Ok, I will get off my soap box now. Thanks for listening:loony:

Absolutely Al. I'd never place my wife and kid in harms way. We'll end up leaving I'm sure. I'll leave that in my wifes hands.:2thumbs:

That's why we all have insurance right.

A lot of the problem NO experienced was from the thugs and gangstas that stayed behind. When rescue came in to work with Air Boats and Choppers the thugs started shooting at em. Thats why we pulled out and slowed rescue to a crawl.
A ton of the murderers and thieves came here to Houston. They were desperate so we got to see thier really bad side. The law locked a bunch of em up and are still looking for some of em. One of the biggest blunders Mayor Bill White ever pulled was offering the astrodome as temporary residence. Our crime rate here sky rocketed after that.
Fema should go right now and set up temporary camps for em in the desert between Cali and Arizona and pull a mandatory evacuation by buss. They've already complained that the levies aren't being upgraded just put back like they were. I say get em outta there now before it floods em in but take em to a place that is far away from any cities where people wil fall prey to their thieving and murdering.

Oscar we're keeping a close eye out over here in houston as to the storm path and if you feel the need to slide Westward come on we've got a couch for you.

Road trip

T.J. can you get some of that road construction cleared away.:bang:

We are making a trek to Tomball, TX to stay at wifes best friend's house. Might have the in-laws in tow also.:argue:

Well, tryin to make lemonade outta lemons I am gonna park my metric right smack in the middle of my yard. It might blow/float away, then the insurance company will have to buy me a 'DOG' as a replacement:whoop:

TS Gustav

I have a flight booked into New Orleans on Tuesday. What is the word about Gustav? Should I cancel now? Should I bring an umbrella? High water boots? a dinghy? If anyone has any local insight, please let me know. I am supposed to be there through Thursday, unless Gustav messes it up.

Jerry, if you are coming for business I'd check your destination to be sure meetings etc. will still take place.

Latest storm track has Gus making landfall Tues. 8:00 a.m. near Morgan City which is approx 90 miles south of N.O. ON this current track NO will probably be evacuated by Sunday.

Of course today is still not the day to panic but we are starting take precautions. The storm can change direction many times once it hits the warm GOM waters. Saturday will be the earliest day to make a guess-timation on possible landfall.

Hope I haven't confused you. If Hurricane Katrina is any indication you may want to bring military issue kevlar. It is gonna be like the wild wild west again.
