HEY GAS MAN

I need your help. You seem to be the man to ask when it comes to Big Dogs

I just bought an 08 k9 It was built in oct of 07. It supposedly sat at a dealer that went out of biz and the dealer I bought it from bought the inventory including my bike.

that being said, I just changed my oil 485 miles. the allen head was a little striped on the drain plug so i assume someone has changed it once. Why? makes me wonder if this is a used bike. The oil filter was a WIX. is that what BDM uses? I can't imagine the dealer changing the oil when it was new. The bike had 245 miles on it when I bought it (didn't see that till after I signed and couldn't do shit about it).

My big question is .....Is there a way to check true mileage? Plug it into a computer?....I was under the bike and noticed a shit load of oil under the motor (not fresh) I am assuming that it is run off from the filter being changed and no one cleaning it...

what do you think

It runs a little rough and has a little knocking noise... I have had Harley's but not with a motor like this . Is this normal

thanx

I'm not sure what BDM uses... my came with a K&N.

As far as the drain plug, I have heard alot of them are torx bits now, maybe you're is too.

The speedo is the only place that has milage. However, the Thunderheart ignition shows running time. You should get a print out from the dealership showing such.

As far as the motor noise... they are very loud compared to your HD motors. Should have alot of tappet noise that is normal, per the larger cam. If you think its excessive, try to listen to another BDM... that may settle your worries.

245 miles seems excesive for a new bike. Do ya think the Stealer pulled one?

don't know what a tp cover is....Definatly an allen not torx...Just can't figure why they would change the oil with no miles....I need to go back to the dealer and SPEAK with them cuz as I was armoralling the tires I noticed they are weather cracked all the way around:argue: :argue:

Thats probly from sitting outside, I also noticed the aluminum is pitted almost like sandblasted from being ridden....ONLY on the front of the bike....errrrrr

wish I inspected it better. Was a spur of the moment purchase..Just really loved the paint

Thanx for your response. Very nice of you to take the time:2thumbs:

The owner of the dealership loved this bike and was thinking of keeping it for himself. I am assuming he rode it a FEW times

I'm not sad.....Just wanna know the history...if the motor is sound I'm kool

the weird noises scare me a little, but like I said That type of motor is new to me. (rigid mount big power) Nothing like the ol street glide harley (smooth as silk).

I am going on a ride tomorrow with a member on the boards. I will get a pretty good idea of noises and what not from his bike

I love this bike,, it truly is an extension of my personality. If the motor is fuqed I will have them replace it b 4 I return the bike

And YES I would buy another big dog in a heart beat:2thumbs: :2thumbs:

You know that putting that stuff on your seat is bad enough cause it makes your ass slide, but tires are a whole different story. The last thing you want is to be going around a corner and that armor all cause that tire to slip. Doesnt end well most of the time for rider or bike. You might want to make sure that stuff is designed for MC tires cause all of them I have ever read states not to put that stuff on 'em! IMHO
