Clutch slipping 2005 BD BDM Chopper

Took it in for 10k service. Had slippage at high speeds. They adjusted clutch and made it worse plus know I hear what I think is a bearing noise coming from the primary. Took it back shop says I need new clutch, BD out of warranty $700+ for whole new clutch + labor. Shop says they won't know if I need plates bearings or what until they disassemble clutch. Best case would be bearings around $100 + labor. Thinking Bandit $450 + labor?

A lot of us have put in the Bandit ourselves. It's about $400 through Nelson. You can do it yourself with minimal tools, you'll just need to have the clutch hub pressed out of the old shell and into the new one.

Also, beings you have an 05 I bet you might get BDM to cover the clutch at least. You may have to pay labor but still worth a try!

Which shop gave you taken it to?

Do you think if it's just the bearing problem let them fix it or go for the Bandit?
Really doubt you have a bad bearing. You need to know if you have the old carrier or new style. If old then it possibly has broken and could be your sound you are hearing.
Again, BDM would most likely fix it if it's the old carrier. Plenty of pics here to determine which is which.
I personally didn't like Boars Nest that much but they build nice bikes. Morelands over in Salono Beach is way better if you ask me.

But from a price point the Bandit is way lest expensive.

I betting clutch carrier! I have friend with an 05 Mastiff, 3 months in the shop trying to get it right. Then I told him about this site and the problems with the clutch carrier, he told the shop, 1 week later been rolling ever since. He was still under warranty but try to ge BDM to step up as Ray said its a know problem.

Ray you were right about everything. BD did pay for the clutch (parts only). Josh's Boar's Nest in Oceanside Ca is terrible. I put a claim in with my insurance company for damage done to my bike while in their shop . Can't give a lot of info because I'm sure there is going to be legal litigation. When it's all said & done I'll share what I can with everyone.

Glad it worked out or at least part of it. You wouldn't believe the problems I had with Boars Nest!!!! Are you taking it over to Morelands? Also there is a shop across from the HD dealer in Oceanside (can't remember their names) that is pretty good.

I filed a complaint today with BD customer relations against Josh's Boar's Nest in Oceanside Ca. They were very interested in every detail of my negative experience. They ask me to please pass on to this forum that they welcome and encourage all BD owners to report all bad experiences that you may of had or are having. I'm far from done with this guy Josh. Everything the law allows I'm gonna throw at him. I'm going to hit him where it hurts the most, the pocket book . He actually tried picking a fight with me like some little school yard bully. I'm very glad I didn't get suck into that one , it was tempting. More details to come. I'm still looking for a shop . My bike needs to have the frame painted, primary covers replaced or re chromed and the billet brace that the head light is attached to replaced (has a deep nick that can't be polished out). Looking at Temecula Motorcycle Sales & Service & Boss Hog in Harbor City. I really want a certified BD shop.If anyone has any input or comments please respond. I'm in Vista Ca , willing to go within about 100 mi radius to find a good shop.

THose problems with your bike are common and easily corrected.

And your frame is painted... its powdercoated... and you'll have to do this to fix it 100% correctly

Geico came to my house today took pics of damage. Frame will be re powder coated and all other damage will be replaced or re chromed.Just have to locate a shop to do the work. Hard telling what they screwed up mechanically when they did the 10k service and new clutch.

it's good that geico is doing their job, but if the shop screwed things up, it should be on the shop's dime, not yours.

Who's doing the work?

They realize to re-powder the frame the bike has to be COMPLETELY tore down... I just did that this winter...

I agree, but these asshole rip off pieces of shit have went through this same thing many times. They know that these insurance companies won't come after them hard. BD won't do anything except give lip service. They flat out told me there not going to do squat.I've filed a complaint with the Better BB.Just hope I don't break down mechanically from there wonderful service (again).

When they strapped it, the metal part of the strap dug into the paint. It went in for the 10k service. Some kind of liquid or oil solvent something melted the paint on the frame under primary. They claimed nothing they use should have bothered the paint.I told them that true if you wipe it off & not let soak in for several weeks. Then they said their detail er was out sick. DA Almost forgot they said who looks under the bike anyway
