Well that didn't last long

So the K9 has me stranded at work - clutch went out at lunch today. Pretty nice day for a little work out pushing it back to the office. <100 degree

Embarrassing how I was just saying how well its treated me <5k miles..:down:

Still, all said - I'd rather push my 30k+ dog than say- read about delly-o cry about his.:roll:

I knew I should have ordered that damn tool roll sooner.

Yep, was only about $7.75 for me per mile + gas before she gave up i guess....

Well, I just went out and adjusted the cable out (without adjusting the clutch rod properly) and got it to engage somewhat. It's still pushing the bike but am trying to decide if I can make it to the dealer like that about 25miles away from present location.

I had adjusted the clutch the other day and changed my fluids as I had been hearing a not so healthy sound coming from the primary. Doing that made the bad noise go away, as I mentioned in a different thread, but today when I went to lunch the clutch engagement just deteriorated quickly within about 5 pulls. So I'm not sure if I should just go get my trailer or risk riding it in at the moment. It's not the cable.

I talked to 'em, he offered to come and get it for $75.00; it's under warranty so fixing it shouldn't be an issue. I'm just sorting through the logistics is all.

I appreciate the help/offer and normally I would do just that. I hate down time, but at the same time I want this documented through the dealer/warranty in the event I continue to have problems down the road ya know.

BDM will pick up $125 for towing... so don't let them screw ya on that!

Yeah they will cover the $75. I would let them do it under warranty for sure.

With the symtoms and mileage (5000) sounds like the nut on the clutch basket. It seems to be getting pretty common. Keep us posted on the diagnoses.

Correct Diagnosis - Big House and others

Well by the time I got a ride home and picked up my trailer and back/loaded etc; it was too late to drop off at the dealer.

So I went ahead and took it apart and found the clutch cage nut about fell out in my hand (still threaded but no tools necessary). You guys were correct on that of course - good call and thank you for the tip.

I went ahead and cleaned it up, red lock tight and 100 lb ft torque. Still putting it back together but sure seems like this will get me back on the road. If any of you guys know the torque spec for the 4 smaller bolts on the outside of the cage (dunno what there called), please let me know if you can easily in the next few minutes...

Else, I'm gonna guess around 25-35 lb ft. {nm, 24 felt about right}
