Primary chain S&S 96 cu. inch superstock.

I bought a custom 1998 Kenny Boyce fxr with an S&S superstock 96 cu. inch. It has a 600 cam. The primary chain had massive deflection in it when I went to do some work on it. Was wondering if anyone knows how much deflection it should have? I have reset it to the 5/8 to 7/8 deflection but I'm kinda scared that this may put too much pressure on other internal engine parts. Any ideas? I'm used to working on stock Harley motors so this is all new to me. Thanks in advance,

You need to find the tightest point in the chain when you are rotating the engine...I would put it in the highest gear it has weather it be 5th or 6th gear.. I would pull the spark plugs to make it easier... rotate the back wheel by hand and then measure the chain...like i said find the tightest point...once that is found set the tension to around 3/4 slack at the tightest spot you found...rotate more times to make sure.

Thank you. Yes I did all that. It's set at 7/8 right now. I was researching it online and the " googlemaster" said that if it's set tight it would wear bearings and the crank out. Anyway, more info may be helpful. Like i said it has a 600 camshaft and what i didnt mention is it has a 5 speed Harley transmission. It has the adjustable tensioner on it and it was basically maxed out downward. It was tight so it didnt slip down there . Was wondering why someone would adjust it that way. The bike was definitely built for speed in its day. 1996 i think it was built ( the motor) at Carl's Speed Shop in Daytona. Just strange.

This is the adjustment procedure for a 2007 K9 . Of course yours won't be the same but it may be similar enough to help you get an accurate adjustment. If you feel jerking in the drive train at low speed your chain may be too loose. Too loose or too tight both cause issues so it makes it worth the time and effort to get it right.
