AZ Bike Week

New guy question, having owned a Vengeance Raider before, I found it not real reliable for trips outside of about 20 miles. I am about to buy a 2006 Big Dog K9, is this machine reliable compared to engineered bikes like my Heritage softail? The reason I as is I live in SoCal and would love to ride out to Cave Creek during bike week in AZ.

If it helps, we have several members in the 100k miles club on Bigdogs. If its in good shape and has been maintained, no reason to stay close to home. These bikes love to run...
That is good news, thank you, the bike I am getting only has 18k miles on it, I'm a bit slower at wrenching now a days but I use to fix recip's and jet engines back in the Navy days. I'll be at Cave Creek then in April.

You guys are not kidding these like to run, I really like this K9 it starts right up and i ran out east on I-10 in Ca today, just took a ride out to Indio and on the way back to Hemet I stopped at HD in palm Springs for a free cup of coffee. This bike at 75 is not even stretching it's legs yet and I am getting 41mpg. Very comfortable with that Danny Grey seat, feels like I could ride all day.

Is it normal for this bike to sound like a Nascar when I'm slowing down, it reminds me of how a P-51 engine sounds when taxing back in from flying, Poping, crackling, and carrying on till I pull in the clutch and let it idle. It is wicked quick to get up to rpm when the throttle is turned just a little, I find I better be ready to quickly shift. At steady speed in any gear, it sounds and is very steady.
