heu gramps, that part #is the old one,the ehc has been up dated.i heard the factory is 17 weeks out,you might be smarter going with the wire plus kit and do away with the ehc.the recall thats out i think is for a loose connection.oh if you havent done a intro feel free to do so,just sayn:cheers:

Hey Smitty I have one that I just put on ebay. Its off of my 03 Chopper and is good. The part # is BD4030-1B which was a replacement. The manufacture date of this one is 0506. Don't know if it will work on your bike but I am sure someone on here can tell you. If it will you are welcome to it for $50 plus shipping!
I agree with you though I got to the point where I refused to buy another and probably would have set the thing on fire if I had no other choice, lol!
Hey Rich,
Do you still have that EHC or know where I could get one?

Thanks,
Mike

OMG, DOn't ask anything before you tell your life story. Got my ass chewed to when I asked a queston about my big dog. So the next time you see someone on a bike like yours at a gas station or a event make sure you tell them all about yourself befor you talk about the bike you love... CRY BABY

bypass of the EHC

Hey guys: I followed Moe's advice and bypassed the EHC as he described and am wondering if there is an order for start up while turning on the power? While running after bypass to see whats what I thought I would turn off the new switch for the thunder heart then to the key switch. started again and it ran for a about a minute and died. light on the thunder heart out with new switch to it on. I thought ok....bad thunder heart module. Waited a few minutes and started it again by first turning the key switch on then the new switch the start switch. started up. runs great and thunder heart stayed on even after getting on the throttle a bit because before bypass that would help make it stall. I am assuming either the EHC and or the Thunder heart module was heating up power wise or vibration was making a circuit unstable.

Maybe I am forest gump here but is the order the bike is started in jerry rig mode a factor?

I have an 04 Big Dog chopper as per my intro tell you.

Thanks
Kirk

Sounds like you got a loose wire or a "sometime" short.
If you got straight power going to the ignition module, then the red light should be on. That part should not have anything to do with the EHC.

If your cam angle sensor or crank angle sensor went out, or was flaky, then that could make it stop running, but your red light on the ignition module should still be on if it has 12v to it.
check the new switch and fuse for good connections, then check for bare spots on the wire.

is the order the bike is started in jerry rig mode a factor?
No.

If you powered both the ignition and the coil with your new wire, all the EHC is doing now is allowing power to the start switch so it will spin the starter. The Cam sensor gets its power from the ignition module, so once its running, nothing from the EHC can shut it down.

I think I got an 04 here that you can have for free, but it has no ignition, headlight, horn, or starter function, and I cut it from the harness so you might have some work splicing it back in.
I would really like to have it. If you still have it 2182960890 tex please
