9 plate from 12 plate

Mornin y'all! As the thread says I recently rebuilt my clutch. Brand new 9 plate clutch, and hardened clutch plate. Reused the diaphragm spring and also reused the stock 12 plate ball and ramp assembly. I have a brand new clutch cable and I can't get the adjustment correct and stop the clutch from dragging. I've tried anywhere from a 1/2 to turn to and 1/8 turn on the adjustment rod and get it dialed back in. Before I throw more money chasing my tail will the 9 plate easy pull ball and ramp solve my problem or am I missing something. Appreciate y'all's help as always! Bike hasn't been on the road in 2 years and I'm chomping at bit!

What year may I ask? Believe it or not it does make a difference…

Check you clutch hub nut it maybe backing off
Really don't wanna pull the outer primary apart again but I'll check that. Also, in some other reading I noticed that the mirror doubles as a clutch cable retainer. Going to order a set of mirrors as I don't have any installed currently. Do you have any recommendations of what to order and from who?

You can get one of these for your bike at bigdogpartskingpin.com. IMG_8950.jpeg

The adjustment isn’t all on the cable, you need to spin the cap off and adjust the ramp nut. The cable shouldn’t ever really have to be adjusted if that’s right… but mixing the 9 and 12, I wouldn’t, I’d go all one way or the other.

And my bike, the clutch is a hell of a work out but I don’t have factory controls which play a part in that as well, but my bikes all jacked up on mt dew… so nothing stock about it aside from the tranny that just did what it wanted to lol

I've made multiple adjustments to the ramp nut from a 1/2 turn to a 1/16 turn. Right now I'm at a 1/4 turn from runout which has been the best so far. I'm leading towards your mindset as well and ordering the new ball and ramp from BigDogPartsKings and making the entire switch

Ride Report: After some adjustment turns out I had some excess play at the clutch lever. After some tweaking she's back on the road after almost 2 years! Still going to order the 9 plate ball and ramp ez pull assembly to have everything match. Appreciate everyone's insight! Felt damn good to be back on the ol girl.
