1997 Proglide. The paint savers were a good idea but poorly implemented (IMHO). The gas caps fit so loosely now that a LOT of air gets into the fuel tanks when the bike is sitting. So much so that 1/2 gallon or more of fuel will evaporate in just a couple of months.
I'm worried about mangling something trying to get these inserts out, assuming they are indeed inserts and not an integral part of the tank. I also don't know what bolt-in options are available to replace them. I did see that there is a pinned thread on parts but what I'd prefer is something close to [Harley] stock or a part made by a well known aftermarket supplied. e.g. Kuryakyn.
Any suggestions on what's available to replace them and any tools that might be needed to get the insert out? Many thanks in advance!
NOTE: The outer cosmetic ring and the rubber gasket under it are both not adhered to the tank and haven't been for eons. Another major annoyance every time I need to refuel. I'd like something relatively inexpensive but decent quality that seals well and doesn't make refueling more difficult.
