Bandit Clutch Upgrade

Everyone:
I just picked up my K9 after loosing the mainshaft in the transmission. The dealer installed a new mainshaft and a Bandit Clutch setup. WOW... does this thing shift sweet! I can now find neutral with ease, and seems like there is less vibration for some reason. We did add .100 worth of shime under each spring to insure proper pressure and no clutch slippage would occur.
Thanks everyone for the information about the Bandit. I think this is a "must do" upgrade!

Is there already a 'how-to' on the Bandit upgrade? Is this something you can do on your own or is this a trip to the shop?

its pretty easy to do and follow Jakes thread - I know it is pretty easy to do because I did mine and I am no mechanic. Make sure you get the timing marks lined up right as per the instructions - I didn't on my first attempt - wasn't good.

"timing marks" is probably not the correct terminology but there are tiny marks on the carrier and the pressure plate I think that must be lined up with each other - its all covered in the instructions

Ok ... thanks Lee ... I still have my old clutch in ... it looked good ... but I really should put in the Bandit ... going to run the old one for a few weeks ... then change over ... Lee did your's break before you installed your Bandit? and what difference did you feel with the new Bandit clutch?

Little dimples in the hub and starter gear. Also on the pressure plate and spring plate that need to be lined up as well. I know there are two sets that need matched up.

mine was not broken before I changed it but I have done a few performance mods to the bike so a better clutch was a good idea anyway.

Differences - well the heavy clunk into first gear after a cold start is completely, and I mean completely, gone. Neutral is easy to find and it grabs very smoothly and distinctly when you pull away and there is no way it will slip under load, especially with the 2 shims on each spring that I put in there.

If you have already bought the bandit then put it in asap. :2thumbs:

Mine cost about $450 with what Jake said to get. Going to put mine in this week. Plus I ordered a long sleeve t-shirt .... can't wait to feel the difference.:D :flag: :up:

Another convert to the Bandit set-up! I have posted several times about getting the factory P.O.S. set-up outta my bike and getting a clutch that works right without all the fiddling , adjusting, stand on your head and set the cable tension at so much tension per atmospheric pressure B.S that I have read so much about. Okay, that might be a little extreme, but seriously, on the Bandit,you know it's right from the first pull on the lever to the barely noticeable snick into first gear. OK, I'll shut up now!
