Mikuni hsr42 questions

2000 bulldog with a 107, installing a hsr42, have the carb, have hopefully the right intake adapter on uts way but what are people having luck with for air cleaners? It came with an adapter but ut doesnt seem to fit my teardrop backing plate. Looks like i need a support plate that bolts to the breather holes and supports the carb and choke cable. Also need throttle cables by what im reading. I have s&s cables looks like i need cv carb cables. Anyone have pics of their setup for ideas?

The new air cleaner adapter is universal. It should have 6 holes. It will fit both harley and S&S air cleaners. You will probably need spacers between the back plate and heads. If you are using the stock back plate, you will probably need to file a small area so the throttle return arm can pass by the back plate. Yes, you will need harley CV cables. Mikunis use CV cables only. They make a bracket to mount the choke cable to the front of the carb.

Yep, as I said, you will probably need to file a small area. I'm guessing you are getting the rubber boot adapter for the G manifold. That works, but not ideal. It causes a loss in air velocity during the transition from the carb to the manifold. The best set-up is using an S&S spigot manifold for a mikuni. For a 107, the part number is 160-1733. That also keeps the carb tucked in close to the engine.

Yep i got the rubber one, i will look into the other one.

It may have to be a special order. The spigot manifold for a 117 is the same size as an 80" evo, so they can be found just about anywhere. The spigot manifold for a 107 isn't as common, but it shouldn't be hard to find. You will need the seal to fit the hsr42. Part number 16-0242.

Yes, but you are going to lose some flow. The harley manifold has 1.625" head side ports. That matches the head ports that are the same size. S&S heads and manifolds have oversize ports that are 1.78". That's why you have to use special seals with S&S manifolds. Harley seals will damage an S&S manifold.

Your talking the rubber oring type seals? Interesting, i bought some from my harley dealer that were the same size as the ones i pulled out of mine. He matched them up with ones he had.

Shit, I just realized something. Your bike is a 2000. S&S didn't start making the new style manifolds until about 2004-2005. So yes, your manifold would be the same size as a harley manifold.

S&S heads have had oversize ports for a long time though. S&S started making the new style manifolds to take advantage of the oversize head ports. You should get more flow by simply switching your manifold to the new style. You might be able to feel a difference by sticking your fingers in the manifold. Or you can remove the manifold and measure the head ports and manifold ports with a micrometer.
