Fn trans plug...

Anyone know what size Allen wrench is required for the Trans drain plug. The SOB is really in a bad spot with the hard lines and all. 3/16 feels a bit sloppy but a 7/32 is too big. I am afraid I’ll strip the damn thing if I bear down on it.

By the way… BDM manual says the drain plug is located on the left side trap door, bottom center… Mine is on the right side just like the dip stick.

Mine is 3/16, I try to write all this info in the manual so the next time I need to do something I know the size.

Kickstart - I hear that. I have the shop manual and it doesn't even mention it there. I am still afraid to bear down on that SOB for fear of stripping it.

get a long allan ball head with 3/8 drive. $23:00 "all will be good"

1/4" -- fits primary, oil tank and transmission drain plugs.

3/16" should fit every drain plug except the engine case drain.

Which manual are you looking in?...I've got them all, and there was never a left side trap door.

3/16" Allen for my '06 K9. It also fits my windshield and coil packs... (long story)

Alicat told me that his '06 K9 used a torx...?
I thought it strange, but Doc from Full Throttle told him that BDM started using torx?
It doesn't make sense to me - but I don't understand the proprietary foot pegs and grips either...?

No shit Gas. I just came in from changing the fluid in mine. Ended up picking up a set of bolt extractors and a spare plug in case mine got boogered up. Also picked up a set of torix wrenches (ended up using the torix too).

The plug couldn't be in a worse location. Right next to the hard lines. Had to use the short end of the wrench and make a shit load of small turns.

Putting the plug back in was a F'n nightmare until I put the plug on the end of a long Q-tip (about six inch long with wooden stick). This was small and flexible enough that I was able to spin that bad boy on real easy.

Putting it back in on my 07 Bulldog was a real pain.

you can buy a socket... put it on an extension... less hassle :up:

a little dab of plumbers putty in the plug will keep it on your socket... spin the extension by hand with the socket and plug... snug it up with the ratchet :up:

I am telling you this SOB is in a tight spot. Not enough room for a socket extension. Have a look see next time you are around an '07 Mastiff.

Ya know cutter... that is true... even throw in a wobble to aid. But its still a bastard setup. If it was my bike... I think I'd plumb in some small tubing and bring it down.

Dawgboy, just changed a friends 06 K9 tranny oil this weekend and it was a pain. It took a 3/16 allen wrench and both of us to do it. He held the lines out of the way and I removed the plug. Replace the plug and get the ball head allen wrench, extra long if you can find it. Good luck!

Got that right. I got the job done but it is a bitch to get at.
