That is an incredible stupid thing to say. I can respect product loyalty, but blind, rabid loyalty for any product. at any cost, borders on fanatical disorder.

You may want to rethink your sentiment, or perhaps, you really do enjoy pushing disabled motor vehicles around. To each his own. Enjoy.

Don't know how young you guys are but the quote "I would rather push my "Harley" than rida a "Riceburner" was on many HD shirts back the 70 & 80's even when most bikers were ready to give up on HD. It took a presidential act to save the MOCO back in 82 or 83 by putting import tariff's on all bikes over 6xx cc's due to shady quality, inferior products or whatever you want to call it if I remember right!!
I had one of those HD's commonly referred to as a "Bowling Ball" (AMF days)!!

re

My 05 Ridgy runs just as well as my honda did. Some of you guys that have had major problems must have taken home lemons. I've heard around 20 or so bad storys. But how many bikes has BD put out on the streets? Plus I know how to make a transmission and clutch last just with my good shifting habits.

OLD DOG
Gentlemen (with the exception of Fat Dog, and KnotSo) I did not originate this thread to create a free for all, but simply to say that for my $$$$ the Big Dog Motorcycle is too problematic, and that perhaps BDM management might sense the reluctance of new buyers to invest a substantial amount of money on a recreational vehicle that is fraught with failure.

There is more than one post here, about current BDM owers, who will not buy another Big Dog anything. There are also numerous posts concerning BDM dealers, that are no more.

I've read how great the BDM warrant is, actually, I've read it too many times. Here's a simple lesson from business 101, without new or repeat customers, no business will last. Perhaps the DBM business model is to stay in business, doing warranty work.

Don't throw stones at me, I don't care what you think. YOU, have a vested interest in BDM. not me, and you should expect better!

Kerr What ever you buy! fall in love with the bike and ride it often!! ride safe!

Over the last 40 years or so I've owned numerous metrics and a hd (maybe 10?). --- ALL of them have had issues! --- None of them have been perfect!

I've never enjoyed riding a bike as much as I do this hardtail dog.
Riding is no longer just a thang but is rather an event!

Now I love the feel of the ride.
Some friends think that I'm crazy for getting a hardtail but it rides like a dream.

I am more proud of this dog than any of my possessions.

Here's a comparison for ya.

I've had my bright yellow corvette for 8 years now. I am used to getting all kinds of attention and stares with it from all walks of life, right?

Well, just one day riding on my new Ridgeback, and what I am noticing the most is that along with all the regular attention I usually get with the car, I see a lot more of these now -

Oh, and the stares last a lot longer too. :D

I've been married 17yrs to my beautiful(she surprised me with the bike,Drove from NY to RI,put on the back of the P/U than back to NY,Hid the Bike For a month b4 giving me the keys)wife,My son is 3-1/2 yrs old funny as hell and cooler than shit,I don't want nor need stares,Diden't know much about BD's when I got it,But I'm damn glad to have it,yes you can take opinions and use them how ever you want, but, for as many members this site has I think the Pro's outweigh the Con's but to each his own.Bottoms Upp:cheers: Now go ride

As with any product you can always have a percentage that are problamtic.
If 2 in 10 bikes has major issues then 20 out of 100 would have issues, simple percentage.

Ray made a good point about Harley. My first new anything was a 1981 sportster, AMF. Yep had to push it within the frist 50 miles (ignition), Clutch plates delaminated with 2500 miles, Rear wheel bearing locked up at about 7500 miles breaking the chain. Warranty on any of this Nope.

My 05 Pibull ran strong and I floged it after the 600 cam and G carb upgrade. The only problems I had were due to wrenchin on things that needed to be left alone. (I think we all do this, lookin to see whats in there, Winter sucks).

My 08, Smooth as my Girls butt. What I am I gonna do to it? Ride more than wrench and tune. What do I expect maybe the speedo takin a freak. The EHC maybe/maybe not. Abusing the bike? Hope not, but It can happen

Anything you buy can give you trouble, You just got to figure out the best and simplest way to get it straight.

I don't think any forum will have people signing on just to say alls well. Thats what the forums are for to, help each other when help is not around.

Read AIM mag. In the questions to tech nobody writes in to say my bikes great. Its all Harley (good bike) but you're readin 96in overheating, 5th gear whining, engine upgrade and dealer can not tune, Etc.

To each his/her own but the more custom a product is, will always require more attn.

Good riding everybody:2thumbs:

To each his own Kerr. I hope you enjoy whatever you may buy.
But understand this, we that own and ride Big Dogs are a proud bunch that love our Scoots and there is a very special thing that happens when you fire up a Dog and ride. Can't explain it in words, it's one of those things you have to experience.
We are a brotherhood, we Dog owners and were not arrogant or stuck up we just firecely enjoy our rides.

So what ever your final choice just ride safe and enjoy whatever that choice is as much as you can

I'm with V on his point as well. Also, Sul & Gas your right, Pushing any bike is no picnic. No matter what name is on it, it's heavy to push.
So far the only time I've had to push mine was when I ran out of gas ( obviously my fault) and when the clutch cable acted up but it's still working fine ( clutch cable) without replacing it.
I think overall Big Dog's are pretty reliable at least as reliable as any Harley I've owned or any Metric bike I've had. Way more than the British bikes I've had ( Triumph and BSA). So as I said before, I LOVE MY DOG:2thumbs: :whoop:

Oh yea by the way.... Goofy Texan is dead on, more Puntang than you can handle, if that's a perk you enjoy, I know I do, even for an old man like me :)

This post made up my mind for me;

I want a bike that stands out from the crowd, but I work way too hard to throw 28K @ a piece of art. It's gotta run, pure and simple.

Maybe executives @ Big Dog will see forums like this, and see that their prospective customers love the looks of the bikes but want, simplicity and reliabilty as well.

Later
Kerr

No offense Kerr, but if that post made up your mind you were not really interested in purchasing a Big Dog anyway, but instead looking for a reason not to purchase one. IMO.

Buy what you want, ride safe, and never trust a cager.

Well here I go.Kerr by now you probably know what you're gonna get. I for 1 love my 05 chop. I've had my issuses but I bought it used With a 2 year 24,000 mi from preferred warranties and I've had to use it twice. Once when my tranny took a shit and once when my starter went down. The warrenty took care of both even when i figured out it was my fault with the tranny. The reason I went with the big dog was it fit I sat on every hd and metric in the shop and when I sat on my dog that was it for me. The last bike I had was a 1950 panhead that I had for 15 yrs and I loved and hated that bike. The last 2 yrs I had it I put 800 miles on it because of it was just wearing me out. Since I had the dog I have put 5700 miles on it and intend to put more on this summer. It is a daily rider I ride 100 every week to the motel then 20 miles twice each day. I don't have alot of free cash so I stretch what I can I want to put alot of goodies on it but I have to see. For the clubs in here when I rode you could only be down 24 hrs or lose a rocker so I did what I could. That said and i'll wont jump in again please pick whatever you want but have fun be safe and be responsible for your actions GOOD DAY:hi:

Kerr,

I would be a little hesitate to base a decision on 1 post  ... Find a good dealer that will take care of you .... maybe get an extended warranty if you are worried about the service end... But you will never know about the Big Dogs until you have one  ... What ever you decide on ...speed safely my friend...:choppersmiley:

Pretty simple.... Harley Davidson  ..... Big Dog :2thumbs::choppersmiley:
