After reading this thread, a couple of comments come to mind.
Kerr, first I aplaud your candor. It appears that you joined this discussion forum because you were interested in the BDM. After consideration on your part you have chosen to go another route. You did not have to speak up on the matter, but you did. The reason I believe is because the folks on this website are the most open and honest folks you have ever run accross.
Again I applaud you for checking things out before making up your mind and in letting us know your feelings.
For the rest of us, while we may not agree with your conclusion, we certainly won't put you down for it.
I for one would be honored to ride with you at anytime because of your integrity.
This forum is for and about Big Dog Owners and riders, but I have never got the feeling that we are not part of the bigger picture--those that love to ride, party with friends and respect the open road on two wheels.

Hey, I love my big dog... I also love my Road King. They're different bikes for different jobs.

You just have to decide what bike you want to have and own.

Yes the big dogs are not as reliable as well.... almost any production bike so, you have to be aware of that up front. I'm not trying to put down our bikes. I don't believe that there's any better production custom and overall big dog does take care of their customers.

I do believe that if you're looking for a bike to never break and always start to go and buy the honda though.

Best way I've heard it put is this..... If you want a more reliable bike than our big dogs, go and buy a harley, if you want it to NEVER break, go buy the metric.

I own a Dog and two hogs......when I ride my Dog it is like nothing else.....and when you pull into a place where there are many bikes I can sit back and look at the people around the Dog......for the most part if you have seen one Hog you have saw them all!

I only plan to have it for the two years of the regular warranty, and then move up to a 2010 model then.

BDM stopped assembling the motors in early '07. My '07 has an S&S assembled motor in it.

Delly, let me correct you with this. My BD is a 2004 model Mastiff, and yes, it has had some problems. But with nearly 11,000 miles on this lovely machine, I stand by my words 100%. I don't know your story, or the facts with you, your scooter and BDM, but you are an exception to the rule. Wanna share some of your problems and problems those other 12 folks you mentioned have encountered???

Gentlemen (with the exception of Fat Dog, and KnotSo) I did not originate this thread to create a free for all, but simply to say that for my $$$$ the Big Dog Motorcycle is too problematic, and that perhaps BDM management might sense the reluctance of new buyers to invest a substantial amount of money on a recreational vehicle that is fraught with failure.

There is more than one post here, about current BDM owers, who will not buy another Big Dog anything. There are also numerous posts concerning BDM dealers, that are no more.

I've read how great the BDM warrant is, actually, I've read it too many times. Here's a simple lesson from business 101, without new or repeat customers, no business will last. Perhaps the DBM business model is to stay in business, doing warranty work.

Don't throw stones at me, I don't care what you think. YOU, have a vested interest in BDM. not me, and you should expect better!

You bought a used bike and have no idea what the previous owner did to it. Don't blame everything on the bike, it could be the previous owner(s).

Troll much? I'm new so I dont have much say, but i've seen nothing but negativity coming from this guy. Do you enjoy being a downer? If I go by what your saying, my pitbull is a ticking time bomb. Good thing I live 5 minutes down the road from the BDM factory.

Completely happy with my purchase and the service I've recieved so far from Brian and the folks at BDM. I have no doubt they'll have my back :2thumbs:

That is an incredible stupid thing to say. I can respect product loyalty, but blind, rabid loyalty for any product. at any cost, borders on fanatical disorder.

You may want to rethink your sentiment, or perhaps, you really do enjoy pushing disabled motor vehicles around. To each his own. Enjoy.
