I'm going to wrap part of my new Pipes from Miami Exhausts.

Are there any tricks to doing a good job on this? The pipes blued so bad that I'm going to do this until I find a better solution.

I couldn't find anything on here

Thanks
Tom

soak them in water first, the wraps go on easier. It can also be easier to tie one end of the wrap to something solid and then kind of roll the pipe into the wrap to get it on tight - especially if you're doing it on your own. Also, in case you don't already know, they smoke like a mother fucker when you first start the bike up.

Wrapped a few myself, I never had any luck with those stainless ties though. Heat expands the pipes then the ties kept popping, stainless hose clamps worked good for me. Make sure you spray them with some thermal coat when your done to preserve the wrap.

yep, and don't put them on to dry them, put a heat gun in each pipe and let it sit on the garage floor for an hour or so, it'll cook all the water right out, then you can let them cool and paint them easily. Heat gun AGAIN after you paint them to cook off the extra whatever, THEN put them on. I just soaked the wrap in a 5 gal bucket and wrapped them over the bucket, you'll get black crap everywhere FYI from the wrap so don't do it over something that can stain.

and if i read right somewhere, only overlap them about a 1/4". if you overlap them too much, the pipes will get too hot and pop alot more on decel.

Thanks guys.

By Thermal coat do you mean high temp paint?

I used stainless safety wire on the first wrap to hold it in place.

Don't be afraid to unwrap and start over if you don like the way a certain area looks.

Keep some zip ties handy and zip it up in the middle so you can stop and take a break if you need to.

If you get to an area where you can't get it to lay down right, fudge it a little by bunching it up on the back of the pipe. It is next to impossible to tell and save a couple of swear words.

I always wrapped mine dry, but wore a mask, long sleeve shirt and gloves. Wetting it keeps the dust down, but if you are covered it is no big deal.
