Works Shocks re-build

I determined to rebuild my shocks when we returned from our big trip as the Harley Bagger shocks just didn't cut it. I am glad to have had them and couldn't have done 14,000 miles without them. But they never could quite maintain ride height. I also determined to get ahold of Worx Shocks in CA (the second generation version of Works) but to no avail. Happily, my research discovered Schmidty Racing

These guys service and recondition Works type shocks for off-road racing and have actually developed several of their own replacement parts. I got quite an education talking to them about my shocks. And here they are fully reconditioned.

Here also, is the itemized invoice for all the work.

I discussed pre-loading my shocks after reconditioning and explained that 8 was looking for 1/4" more length. They explained that pre-Lodi g does not really lengthen the shock but rather raises the ride height. I told them I was convinced that mine were preloaded from the factory as my ride height deteriorated over 23 years -especially over the past 4 years or so. He was astounded that I got 100,000 miles out of them saying they have an expected life span of about 50k. I told him early on and for most of the 23 years, they were really stiff and harsh when unloaded but I still preferred that to what I have had for the past five years. He said he could soften them for the ini5ial travel without compromising the shock strength or travel and is said do that. He said he would have to wait until he got into the body of the shock to see if there were any adjustment spacers inside that he could change to give me the 1/4" extra length (from 12" to 12-1/4"j. He called once he was in5o them nd Sid there were no spacers at all in my shocks but that he had two Works shafts he could put in that would give me that. Again I said do it. Now I can't wait to get my bike on the lift aad put the on.
