WirePlus or DBM Replacement for EHC

Just had Big Dog Service (here in Wichita - they're hangin' by a thread) replace my junk EHC with the new PDM setup. By the way, I have a 2008 K-9 which I bought new from them in April, 2008. My bike was just "shutting off" whenever it wanted to and continually got worse.
So far, the PDM has fixed my problem.
BUT.... my signal lights no longer cancel themselves - have to remember to manually shut them off everytime now. Sucks, but that's the only drawback.
Personally, I'd rather have the fuses anyway.....

If you have done the wire plus (and cut the 2 big plugs off the harness), does the Big Dog PDM have a new harness that replaces the one cut up for wire plus?

By the way, the wire plus company has yet to send me the bad module that I got about a week after I put wire plus in. They wanted a credit card and charged me for the hand control module rather than doing a decent warranty replacement on their defective part. Supposedly, they will refund my charge when I return the defective part. I can understand why they did it, but I still think their approach to helping me sucks almost as bad as dealing with BDM (before they went out of business). I will call wire plus Monday and ask where my replacement module is.

I bought the wire plus from Jake and he also passed the buck and suggested I deal directly with wire plus.

I love the bike and have never regretted it. But things like this with vendors that I just dropped a big pile of money with isn't right.

I've had the Wire-Plus installed over a year now, I believe, and not one problem. Not so much as a wimper from my pup. Jake does a serious job of guiding you through the mod too. Definitely the best decision I've made was to go to the Wire-Plus.:2thumbs::2thumbs:

you can get the original harness from bdm. I ordered both when I was having trouble with my wire plus install. I was going to reinstall the ehc but ended up resolving the issues with the wire plus.

I just installed a Wire Plus EHC replacement unit on my 2005 BD Ridgeback. After reading the different threads I figured I was going to be along side of the road soon. It had a few issues with the turn signals intermittently not working. The horn quit working and the speed odometer just started acting up so I figured with the wait time on back order issue I better get one. I ordered it directly from Wire Plus.

This kit requires a higher amperage ignition switch and a special crimping tool for the DT connectors. I did not see that on the Wire Plus web site. It only suggests the switch and I did not see anything about the crimping tool. So in a few weeks the kit arrives and I get out the instructions and read through them only to find out I needed the ignition switch and the crimping tool that was available from Wire Plus. I did not want to wait on ordering them so I found the switch locally and made due with a crimping tool that I had. I thought about soldering those connectors but by double crimping the DT connectors with the tool I had it worked fine.

The instructions were pretty good overall but lacked general information like both wiring harnesses need to be together because you will have wires from both harnesses going to all three of the DT connector plugs. I was lucky enough to have mounted the modules close enough that everything reached. Some of the jumper wires were too long because I wasn’t sure how everything was going to fit. No big deal other than I had to wrap everything up real nice to make it look somewhat good.

I will say that everything worked the first time and it took me about 5 evenings at a couple of hours each. For me it was better to walk away and take a break. I literally checked off each step on the instructions as I completed them so I did not miss anything. Some advice is to have a magnifying glass handy and only cut one wire at a time loose from the BD harnesses. I tested every wire before putting the DT connectors on like the instructions said. That was the best advice because it would be so easy to get one of the wires crossed up. You also may want to have extra butt splice connectors and shrink wrap tubing handy as I was short on both of these items.
It sounds like Jake is a good choice to buy from as he has a lot of experience with this and good ideas to help people out right from the start. I am happy with it so far and the bike runs great.

I want to thank everyone on this site again as I would have probably bought the BD replacement not knowing any better. It appears that the time spent installing the Wire Plus will be worth it in the long run.

Wiring it wrong or loose connection and burning it up REALLY isn't covered under warranty and besides, I didn't pass the buck! Wire-Plus doesnt allow me to swap out units out of my stock. I have to refer all warranty issues to them unless it is something I can fix through a phone call.

It is a very expensive unit and most places would make you send yours in and they would send you a new one, for them to hold on your card till they get yours back is understandable in all cases!
