Howdy,

I got the 2010 BDM Bulldog Bagger. Currently has the following:
600 Cam
VH LR Pipes
Ported-Polished heads.

Next up:
S&S VFI Unit
S&S Single Bore Tuned Induction System

Question, Will this mod/up-grade allow me to reach full potential on my powerband w/o having the red engine light come on?

Also, how can I squeeze a few more rpm's out of the engine?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Check Engine light bad!

I've replaced the stock ECU (Which is an S&S VFI) with the unlocked S&S VFI. This will allow you to make adjustments as needed. S&S will provide the new VFI module with a box file for your configuration however, with all the work you've done I would consider taking the bike to an S&S Tuner after replacing the module to reach the potential of the 117. Not sure about the higher rpms I don't think they like much more than 6500..John Sachs could answer that one.

Some guys have also replaced the module with a Thunderheart Wide Band system.

Erldawg,

A big fricking THANK-YOU!
Welcome, There were a few other threads on changing the VFI module. I picked mine up from Phat Performance in Laguna Beach they had the best price I could find if your into doing it yourself, if not take it to someone that knows S&S VFI and they could install and tune it for ya. Too Bad Customs one of our site sponsors now carries S&S also and he may have a good price as well....

I'm curious did you change the valve springs to accomodate the new cam?

The bike is back! Yeeeeeaaaaaah baby! Talk about a whole new bike with an attitude adjustment. No more spittering, sputtering or any hesitation issues whatsoever! I'm only into it for about 50 miles and I'ma grinning ear-to-ear!

Question. Into the beast for about 150 miles after the mod. Spitted and sputtered @ around 3600 rpm range anf again around 4800. Now, it seems to be doing better. S&S tuned their module for my previous mods and c.i. Seems to be running better w/o the spit/sputter. EHC Closed Loop Learning or.....??

Mine will spit and sputter a little when it's cold other than that runs like a SOB. :2thumbs:

And yes more than likely it's closed loop learning.

My understanding that the S&S VFI needs a breakin period.

2hrs - capped at 4300rpm
?hrs - capped at 5800rpm
20hrs - Redline

Basically you'll need 20 hours on the new VFI before you're seeing all the benefits. If you're not using a pre-build setting, this is the time to head back to the tuner to unleash the Dog.
