Which BDMs to avoid?

My youngest daughter's boyfriend is looking to buy a used Chopper or K9. He prefers the RSD Dogs. From what I've read here and the former 'site, I seem to recall quite a few forum members complaining of faulty EHCs on the 04s. Plus, I vaguely remember there was a common complaint regarding the 05s. Are my generalizations accurate, or is my memory betraying me?

Any suggestions that might be helpful?

Most the LSD 2004 bikes have very few problems.

The 2005 bikes all had way too many changes done and like BDM says, "This was our AMF year!"

2006 and up bikes have pretty much had the bugs worked out.

04 RSD bulldog here, 117" only issues was the EHC. Been good awhile now.

2003 LSD chopper no issues other than wear and tear.

04 117 chopper with with nearly 13k..seems to be running great!!

I'd look for an 06 and up with S&S Rocker boxes.

If you go with a RSD..... As Vegas stated go with 06 and up with S&S rockers (S&S rockers have 6 bolts and TP's have 4) I have a early production 06 K9 with TP rockers. BBChopper is correct... a 05 with some miles on it should be OK.

My 03 also had the EHC replaced. It is encouraging to read that EHC headaches have either subsided, or at least have been fixed, and hopefully during your warranty periods. Thanks for all of the replies.

I agree with BBChopper. If you get an 05 just make sure it has a few miles on it. Even so- most of the issues I've had on my 05 BDM covered, even though the bike was out of warrantee. I couldn't be more pleased with my 05

I have had my 05 chopper since new with no problems other than the speedo thing. That has since been corrected, at no cost, with the new replacement and bracket

I suggest you PM Moespeeds. He has an 04 Chopper that he knows intimately, having customized it and done all repairs himself. His bike is listed under swap meet, as he wants to build a new bike from the ground up, so you can see what he has done.
