Hello all,
I wanted to get some info on......if a 18 x 8.5 in wheel with a 240 40 18 will fit on my 01 mastiff??? Does anyone know exactly the biggest wheel/tire combo I can go with for the rear
Thanks,
J

what size is on there now? If its a big difference then even if the wider wheel will fit in the swingarm its likely to be quite a big job with alignment issues galore, belt clearance issues (a chain would help in that department) rear fender fitment leading to potential seat issues etc etc etc.

10cc's isn't much. But you have to consider other changes like axle size, spacers, brakes and matching sprocket (matching wheel design), maybe fender clearance with the low profile over your old style.

Lots of threads on here of member trying to put a 260 on a 250 and a 250 on a 240. Search them out!

On the belt side your only talking 5cc's so you could let that rub out without harm I would think if it doesn't clear.
Going to be a costly experiment though if it's doesn't work. You probably won't find anyone here that has tried it with your limited model but you never know.

Oh, have you measured how much space you have between the belt and tire?

10MM is just over 3/8 of an inch, it'd give you another .394. So you'll need to make sure you have more than 3/16 of an inch clearance on each side.

My oppinion is for what you could likely tie up in this plan you could upgrade to a bike that allready has it and not have to deal with it. I've done projects like this and by the time I finished I was disappointed due to the fact I could have bought something different allready the way I wanted, only plus side is you will have a one of a kind bike,

Guys
Thanks for all of the great info......... I got the 18 x 8.5 in wheel with the bike......
So no out of pocket expense.....Just going to buy the tire 240 40 18 (it needs a new back tire anyway and the best deal i can find for a 230 60 15 is $289 plus shipping)
I have not got to see/ride my bike as I am still in Iraq........but come Aug I will probably sleep on it...with the wife of course..........LOL
Thanks,
J
