Whats The Difference

Well I got my manual from Tracy yesterday and I found out that I have a DT and not a BDM chopper so what is the difference besides the oil capacity. I guess I am a moron because when the private party sold me the bike he said it was a bdm chopper and I said OK. So what is the big difference:job:

Well there was somebody who had the pics of the differences...

The top motor mount spot... bdm is cicular where as the others are to piece welded to a triangle. The tail of the swingarm same thing. BDM is rounded and the others are pointed. Plus the position of the VR. The BDM is underneithe the front motor mount where the others are above and out front.

So what you are saying is just minor cosmetic frame differences. Damn you is fast GASMAN.

Yeah basically that's it. No one is better than the other. I mean if you trust BDM then you're good. If you don't know DT stands for Daytec and they have been making frames forever. I think V-twin or American Thunder did a show on them. They know their shit for sure.

And saying I'm fast... yeah I have heard that before when on my sportbike! :D

I got rid of my sportbike. I had a Kaw 9R as my last one... the best one I ever had. Me and that bike were great together. She put down good power and I got her just right with gearing and everything... then sold it a few months later... oh well. I put sold mine to help bank roll the chop but also to get me off of it. I realized I rode way too risky and had too much to loose. But I have still been known to chase my sportbike guys down on the chop. To most of their surprise...

That sure is funny because I got ride of mine for the same reason. My soon to be wife was with a friend in her friends new car so I had no clue when I went by them on one wheel. She was not to pleased so I said OK I will get something slower that I cant wheellie (haha) I havent found a way to bring it up the front wheel but damn that chopper is fast. Eventually I will get a track bike but for now the chopper is a great stress reliever.

My Chopper is an 03.......sometime during that year they had a recall on frames and I ended up with a Daytec. You could order Daytec for and extra couple hundred dollars apparently superior to the standard (Canadian...rolling thunder?) frame.......bottom line, if you have a Daytec you probably got a better frame from that time period. What ever BD had done since I'm sure problems have been resolved.

What I am look at is replacing the shocks with adjustable air-shocks. I'm told leveling is wired through the left turn signal switch.....maybe get my squeaky ass belt adjusted or changed out at the same time. :nopity:

Since my association with BDM in 02 I've known of three frame manufacturers they have used.
Daytec
Rolling Thunder
BDM
Seems they are making all in house now starting in late 05.
Rolling Thunder caused all the problems in 03 when the backbone was breaking under the tank causing a recall. Haven't been anymore problems with them to my knowledge. There has been some problems with swing arm alignment but not sure if it pertained to a certain frame type.

My 05 has a Rolling Thunder and I've had no problems with it. I seem to remember when I bought mine in 04 that I could have gotten the Daytec and it would have been a little shorter in the pegs but not absolutely positive.

Later,
Ray

If you look at your project number(letter & #"s on left side of neck) it'll tell you which frame you have...Daytec project numbers start with a T and the other 2 frames start with an N...
